Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) has over years been the embodiment of trust, honesty, ethics and responsibility to the entire nation. India’s first private news channel, founded by Vijay, is the temple of ‘true’ journalism. He believes that while everyone is entitled
to their opinion, they are not entitled to their own facts! Pitted against him in the battle for corporate supremacy is Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Bahl), a former employee at Vijay’s channel. Amrish has, in a way, ‘revolutionized’ the business of delivering news. For Amrish, the media is a vehicle that he rides upon and maneuvers to deliver baseless entertainment. His channel isruling in terms of viewership numbers. Vijay is aware of his battle with Amrish’s channel, but what hits Vijay is something he wasn’t prepared for… Jay Malik (Sudeep), Vijay’s son and CEO, is desperately seeking a way to resuscitate his channel and get it back to the top slot. Jay is a go-getter who looks at his father’s channel as an enterprise that must make profits. He cannot digest his rival’s channel racing ahead and is set to hatch a major plan that would catapult his channel to the top. Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal), a politician yearning to take the prime post of the country takes advantage of Jay’s ambition. But the fulcrum of his plan rests on using Vijay’s robust credibility! They say that wars are won through deception…and this war was no different. Vijay’s channel regains the number one slot with panache, as he ends up unearthing one of the most scintillating exposes in the history of Indian news. Purab (Riteish Deshmukh) has always idolized Vijay as the epitome of truth and turns to a career in investigative journalism at Vijay’s channel. The tension soars when he uncovers the truth behind the story that had taken Vijay’s
channel to the pinnacle. What happens when he confronts the Vijay with the real truth? Does Vijay have the strength of character to fight between his principles of truth and the corrupt convenience that surround him? Will he be able to undo what he had mistakenly done? Will Vijay fight the battle to expose the truth…even if it means fighting his own son?

Tia’s talk with Vikas Kohli, Music Producer and Creator of FatLabs

Vikas Kohli, music producer and creator of FatLabs, has over 20 years of composing experience across a variety of genres from punk, jazz, hip-hop, and pop to country,
metal, rock’n’roll and Bollywood soundtracks. Kohli has worked on projects with Cappadonna (Wu-Tang Clan), Mika Singh, Moka Only, Justin Nozuka, Tef & Don and
The Responsibles. When asked how he maneuvers effortlessly between so many genres, Kohli simply states, “I just like music. Don’t you?

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in the small suburb of Nepean, just outside Ottawa where I played soccer in snow one foot deep. In the 90's I moved to Mississauga and realized the wonders of an infinite suburban sprawl.

How do you think the environment you were in and your surroundings shaped what you do now? It's a tie between nature & nurture. Everyone in my family has a natural affinity to both art & mathematics and both of those have been unavoidable in my life. As an Indian growing up in Canada, I watched Bollywood movies at home and then went outside to cause trouble with my punk band. Throw all that in a blender and out comes the smoothie of what I do.

What led you to realize music is what you wanted to do?
Music makes people feel good and who wouldn't want to spend their lives immersed in that?

How do you think you are impacting the south asian community?
I'd like to think that the community is impacting me. I started in the music biz by writing and producing mainstream rock and urban artists. After the artists I worked with charted on mainstream radio stations across Canada, the NRI artists and Bollywood artists started contacting FatLabs and the local desi community in general has shown me such love. At the end of the day, I help artists make their music and put soundtracks to their films. Without the artists, I wouldn't have anything to do but watch re-runs of Maury Povitch all day.

What are you currently working on?
I just finished writing the soundtrack for a feature length documentary called "My Father, The Terrorist" and there are a few other North American film projects lined up for this year and another Bollywood film project.

As for music, I'm working on some dance songs with Rebecca Nazareth, calypso songs with Joseph Pilarski, pop songs with Jennifer Abadesso and some Hindi songs with Shweta. This year I'm also launching a program with some partners that will help new artists by giving them a CD, photo-shoot and music video all at once. The idea is to get them off the ground and put their music in front of the audience.

What do you have in mind for the near future an where o you see yourself after 5 years?I've learned that no matter how much I plan, I never know where I'll end up and what great projects I'll work on. All I hope for is that I can go to the movies or turn on the radio and always catch one of the artists that I've worked with.

Careerwise what is the one thing that has been very special to you?
Years ago, I was telling my friend that one of the songs I worked on just got picked up by one of the mainstream FM radio stations. We were in his car and he turned to me and asked, "So if I turn on the radio, will I hear your song right now?". I told him that wasn't likely. Anyway, he turns on the radio in his car and the song happened to be playing. I don't know if that was the coolest thing or the time one of the songs I produced was performed live at the IIFAs in front of Amitabh Bachchan.

Do you have any particular project you have wanted to work on or be a part of?
According to Meyers-Briggs, I like to seek new experiences. So for all the artistsAny message that you want to give to our readers. out there --- bring it on! FatLabs is waiting.
Stay gold, Ponyboy.

Tia’s talk with Yasmin Virani, Actor - Writer - Director

Where were you born and raised? Canada.
Born in Vancouver, but raised in Toronto.

How do you think the environment you were in and your surroundings shaped what you do now? Well,
I think being brought up in a South Asian family can be tough.
In my household there was very little communication. As a family we loved one another, but we didn’t really know each other. I was automatically drawn to the Arts because it was an outlet for me. It was a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings, so becoming an artist was actually a natural progression for me.

What led you to realize this is what you wanted to do?
I remember the first time I ever went on stage, as a performer, I think there’s an awareness that happens. For me that was the defining the moment, the realization that I am a part of something much bigger in the world, even as a child I felt that.

How do you think you are impacting the South Asian community?
The South Asian Arts community in Canada is actually quite small, and being a minority community, I think it’s important that we represent ourselves in an honest manner. I have always done that with all of my work. In fact I do more than honesty, I push boundaries and I think one sees the impact of their work after a show, when someone tells you that you have, “moved” them, or they somehow see themselves differently - that’s real impact, because that’s change.

What are you currently working on?
I am actually going on tour this year with my one - woman show, entitled ANAND (bliss, peace, happiness). Be sure to check out my website at: www.yasminvirani.com for our Toronto dates!

What do you have in mind for the near future?
Well, after my tour, I will be working on my first Bollywood film which I am extremely nervous and excited about!
Careerwise what is the one thing that has been very special to you? Hmmm, this is tricky, but I would have to say my new play, Anand. I wrote it during a phase in my life when I was struggling with the idea of loss. Everyone’s lost someone they love in life and I think it’s easier when you’re the one that who’s got your heart broken in bargain, because to some extent, it’s easier to move on. But what happens when it is your fault and you are to blame? How do you move forward then? How do you forgive yourself? That’s what Anand’s about and it’s semi - autobiographical! So it’s definitely special, because I am not sure if I will ever have the courage to be that honest again.

Do you have any particular project you have wanted to work on or be a part of? So many!
There are so many talented people in our industry! I’m a huge fan on Mira Nair - absolutely love and adore Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s work, Visal Bhardwaj, the list goes on and on!

DULHA MIL GAYA Movie Preview

The Shahrukh Khan starrer DULHA MIL GAYA, which has been in the making for a quite a long time, will finally see the light of the day in January 2010. Produced by Vivek Vaswani and directed by Muddassar Aziz DULHA MIL GAYA also stars Fardeen Khan, Sushmita Sen and Ishita Sharma (who was seen in Prakash Jha’s DIL, DOSTI, ETC…). DULHA MIL GAYA is jointly written by Vivek Vaswani and Muddassar Aziz. The music is composed by Lalit Pandit (and Pritam as guest composer). While the lyrics are penned by Mudassar Aziz and Kumaar. Synopsis: DULHA MIL GAYA is a heart-winning tale of four individuals each of whom have different takes on relationships in their lives. Donasi, a young commitment phobic debonair, is petrified with the idea of terms like ‘marriage’ and ‘long term relationships’. Samarpreet, a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished and lived by. Shimmer, a diva from the world of glamour, for whom love and relationships aren’t quite half as important in life as independence and ’success’ are. And lastly, Pawan Raj Gandhi, PRG, for short, a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is. When paths cross for these four characters, fireworks goes off and they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term. Through the interwoven love stories of Donsai, Samarpreet, PRG and Shimmer, DULHA MIL GAYA, with the help of humour, music, emotions, and style, attempts to unlearn the norms of love and relationships in the present day world! A satiating romantic experience that promise to bring more than a smile to your face! Character Sketch: FARDEEN KHAN as TEJ DHANRAJ/DONSAI Donsai was not born in Donsai; born Tej Dhanraj, heir the Five Billion Dollar Dhanraj Empire, it was his ‘Dom Perignon’ social life in Trinidad that gave him the name ‘Donsai’ which is the Trinidanian slang for ‘Dollar’. Donsai’s mother had died in Trinidad when he was only eight, a loss which would forever impact the way he saw life. As donsai grew up, sole heir to limitless wealth, he also grew into a man who didn’t need company. He was always surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful women, but he never felt the need to allow any women a special place in his life. Not because he was waiting for Miss Right, but simply because he believed that there was NO Miss Right. He therefore did not think there was any earthly reason to be committed and most definitely no reason to ever get married. Mr. Surajratan Dhanraj knew of his son’s phobia of relationships and he knew that he has neglected Donsai; his obsession with building his empire would cost him love and affection of his son. He knew that he would have to create a safety net; a safety net that his son would have to acknowledge. And, though Donsai did not know it then, his life was about to change permanently. Donsai had never been in love; and though a charmer with women, a certain cynicism has crept in. So, when Donsai fell in love… it was cataclysmic! And when a spoilt boy becomes a responsible man… we can’t help but cheer! SUSHMITA SEN as SHIMMER: Shimmer was always Shimmer; she was born Shimmer. In fact, even the nurses in the maternity ward where she started her life said that there was a glow about her. Shimmer was ethereally beautiful. A beauty of such character and dignity, she stood out at every school event not just because she was beautiful but because Shimmer was also intelligent. Shimmer inevitably chose a career that would allow her the best use of her beauty and charisma. She chose to be a model! In her present form, where she talks about herself in third person and lives life strictly on her terms, Shimmer is also a strong-willed girl, who has fought her way up in a man’s world and has become what she has on her own steam. She is the queen of Trinidadian high life; the high priestess of fashion; the final arbitrator of good taste; the ladder that all wannabe models wanted to climb. She is the most eligible single women in the Caribbean! And that’s when Pawan Raj Gandhi fell under her spell, the whole Caribbean watched with bated breath!!! If Shimmer was a Queen, PRG was undoubtedly King, as his companies were in the global top three every domain. She was on his own arm at every major special event from New York to Paris to London. They were on the cover of every magazine, newspaper and tabloid. And the whole world waited for an announcement of marriage, which never came. The reason Shimmer’s love for her independence, until… Samarpreet took over. ISHITA SHARMA as SAMARPREET: Orphaned at a very young age, Samarpreet Kapoor was brought up by her Taj-ji and Bade-pa in Ratta Khheda, Punjab. Happy in her simple, innocent, under adulterated world where her Bade-pa – Taj-ji doted on her while living in their own martial bliss, Samarpreet’s life was perfect. After all, that’s what life was all about; living happily ever after, marriages are which forever. And of course she also dreamt of a Prince Charming who would lead her to her happily-ever-after life. In walked Tej Dhanraj, the son of her late father’s friend, and to whom her hand in marriage had been promised. After his own father’s demise, Tej came all the way from Trinidad to fulfull the promise of their fathers by marrying her, and, in Tej, Samarpreet found a handsome, charming, respectful to elders, committed to work, perfect Prince Charming… or so she believed. In search of her husband who went back and disappeared from her life after marriage, Samarpreet travelled to Trinidad, a land where she saw her husband’s true colours, a place where everything that she held sacred became sacrilege, and a place which brought a heartbreak she never knew possible…until destiny and Shimmer took over. SHAHRUKH KHAN as PAWAN RAJ GANDHI Pawan Raj Gandhi (PRG) is an empire builder – at the age of 38, his empire straddles four continents from shipping to mining, from breweries to real estate, from chains to malls to chains of food stores, Pawan Raj Gandhi has built it all by himself, and is proud of it. Erudite, well read, charming and a connoisseur of fine things, he is very much in demand socially, but always, enigmatically, never available. Pawan Raj Gandhi would have been the most eligible bachelor in the entire world, except for one thing – his limitless love for Shimmer. It was inevitable. Shimmer, supermodel of the western world, was one of the most independent and self – sufficient women that PRG had ever known. His love for her bloomed under a thousand spotlights, and thrived under the hungry and watchful eyes of global paparazzi. Though not married, the relationship was akin to one. There was not one hint of infidelity, of boredom, of separation ever. Even the media, who could and did look for the wildest controversies, had to bow down to the pure power of what he felt for her. The marriage had not taken place only because of the sheer security that PRG was willing to provide Shimmer with. He had wrapped her in a cocoon of love, happiness and safety. The man, who was often inaccessible to the power brokers of the world, was one phone call away from Shimmer. Completely aware that his wait for his love may eventually become an endless one, PRG would do nothing about it. This was the essence of the man and his love for his women.
DULHA MIL GAYA is set to release @ Albion & Woodside Cinemas on January 8th 2009.
