Synopsis: DULHA MIL GAYA is a heart-winning tale of four individuals each of whom have different takes on relationships in their lives. Donasi, a young commitment phobic debonair, is petrified with the idea of terms like ‘marriage’ and ‘long term relationships’. Samarpreet, a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished and lived by. Shimmer, a diva from the world of glamour, for whom love and relationships aren’t quite half as important in life as independence and ’success’ are. And lastly, Pawan Raj Gandhi, PRG, for short, a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is. When paths cross for these four characters, fireworks goes off and they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term. Through the interwoven love stories of Donsai, Samarpreet, PRG and Shimmer, DULHA MIL GAYA, with the help of humour, music, emotions, and style, attempts to unlearn the norms of love and relationships in the present day world! A satiating romantic experience that promise to bring more than a smile to your face! Character Sketch: FARDEEN KHAN as TEJ DHANRAJ/DONSAI Donsai was not born in Donsai; born Tej Dhanraj, heir the Five Billion Dollar Dhanraj Empire, it was his ‘Dom Perignon’ social life in Trinidad that gave him the name ‘Donsai’ which is the Trinidanian slang for ‘Dollar’. Donsai’s mother had died in Trinidad when he was only eight, a loss which would forever impact the way he saw life. As donsai grew up, sole heir to limitless wealth, he also grew into a man who didn’t need company. He was always surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful women, but he never felt the need to allow any women a special place in his life. Not because he was waiting for Miss Right, but simply because he believed that there was NO Miss Right. He therefore did not think there was any earthly reason to be committed and most definitely no reason to ever get married. Mr. Surajratan Dhanraj knew of his son’s phobia of relationships and he knew that he has neglected Donsai; his obsession with building his empire would cost him love and affection of his son. He knew that he would have to create a safety net; a safety net that his son would have to acknowledge. And, though Donsai did not know it then, his life was about to change permanently. Donsai had never been in love; and though a charmer with women, a certain cynicism has crept in. So, when Donsai fell in love… it was cataclysmic! And when a spoilt boy becomes a responsible man… we can’t help but cheer! SUSHMITA SEN as SHIMMER: Shimmer was always Shimmer; she was born Shimmer. In fact, even the nurses in the maternity ward where she started her life said that there was a glow about her. Shimmer was ethereally beautiful. A beauty of such character and dignity, she stood out at every school event not just because she was beautiful but because Shimmer was also intelligent. Shimmer inevitably chose a career that would allow her the best use of her beauty and charisma. She chose to be a model! In her present form, where she talks about herself in third person and lives life strictly on her terms, Shimmer is also a strong-willed girl, who has fought her way up in a man’s world and has become what she has on her own steam. She is the queen of Trinidadian high life; the high priestess of fashion; the final arbitrator of good taste; the ladder that all wannabe models wanted to climb. She is the most eligible single women in the Caribbean! And that’s when Pawan Raj Gandhi fell under her spell, the whole Caribbean watched with bated breath!!! If Shimmer was a Queen, PRG was undoubtedly King, as his companies were in the global top three every domain. She was on his own arm at every major special event from New York to Paris to London. They were on the cover of every magazine, newspaper and tabloid. And the whole world waited for an announcement of marriage, which never came. The reason Shimmer’s love for her independence, until… Samarpreet took over. ISHITA SHARMA as SAMARPREET: Orphaned at a very young age, Samarpreet Kapoor was brought up by her Taj-ji and Bade-pa in Ratta Khheda, Punjab. Happy in her simple, innocent, under adulterated world where her Bade-pa – Taj-ji doted on her while living in their own martial bliss, Samarpreet’s life was perfect. After all, that’s what life was all about; living happily ever after, marriages are which forever. And of course she also dreamt of a Prince Charming who would lead her to her happily-ever-after life. In walked Tej Dhanraj, the son of her late father’s friend, and to whom her hand in marriage had been promised. After his own father’s demise, Tej came all the way from Trinidad to fulfull the promise of their fathers by marrying her, and, in Tej, Samarpreet found a handsome, charming, respectful to elders, committed to work, perfect Prince Charming… or so she believed. In search of her husband who went back and disappeared from her life after marriage, Samarpreet travelled to Trinidad, a land where she saw her husband’s true colours, a place where everything that she held sacred became sacrilege, and a place which brought a heartbreak she never knew possible…until destiny and Shimmer took over. SHAHRUKH KHAN as PAWAN RAJ GANDHI Pawan Raj Gandhi (PRG) is an empire builder – at the age of 38, his empire straddles four continents from shipping to mining, from breweries to real estate, from chains to malls to chains of food stores, Pawan Raj Gandhi has built it all by himself, and is proud of it. Erudite, well read, charming and a connoisseur of fine things, he is very much in demand socially, but always, enigmatically, never available. Pawan Raj Gandhi would have been the most eligible bachelor in the entire world, except for one thing – his limitless love for Shimmer. It was inevitable. Shimmer, supermodel of the western world, was one of the most independent and self – sufficient women that PRG had ever known. His love for her bloomed under a thousand spotlights, and thrived under the hungry and watchful eyes of global paparazzi. Though not married, the relationship was akin to one. There was not one hint of infidelity, of boredom, of separation ever. Even the media, who could and did look for the wildest controversies, had to bow down to the pure power of what he felt for her. The marriage had not taken place only because of the sheer security that PRG was willing to provide Shimmer with. He had wrapped her in a cocoon of love, happiness and safety. The man, who was often inaccessible to the power brokers of the world, was one phone call away from Shimmer. Completely aware that his wait for his love may eventually become an endless one, PRG would do nothing about it. This was the essence of the man and his love for his women.
DULHA MIL GAYA is set to release @ Albion & Woodside Cinemas on January 8th 2009.
