"You Are Who You Are" is an exhibition of Neo-Humanism Paintings by CGhirardo taking place at the Promenade Gallery, 943 B Lakeshore Rd. East from March 6-17. Opening reception is Friday March 7, 6:30-9:00 pm, regular gallery hours are Wednesday toSunday, 11:00am to 6:00pm.
Culture is people: Their interaction to their environment and adaptability to the changing environment and surroundings represents attitudes and thinking. Inspired by the likes of Goya, Daumier, and Toulouse Lautrec who commented on their times through people they encountered, Ghirardo focuses on the engagement of the human figure and the body’s relationship to its experiences. Professor Peter Larisey, an Art Historian at Regis College, termed Ghirardo’s works as "Neo-Humanism" and relates it to the artists of the Renaissance and Middle Ages as they painted the aspects of humanity in conjunction with their religious, cultural and social environment. Exploring these aspects in the human figure, Ghirardo feels is his take on contemporary culture.
"This is an important exhibition by an artist who is both sensitive and in-tune with the message of time and lessons of history. Remarkable works that constitute our social and communal attitudes."
-Asma Mahmood, Artistic Director and Curator of the Promenade Gallery
