Ace designer Archana Kocchar to showcase her latest collection at the ANOKHI Awards
By Shruti Ganapathy
Toronto
She is the latest on the B-town fashionista list, with the likes of Celina Jaitley, Bipasha Basu, Sonakshi Sinha and Ileana D’Cruz taking to the catwalk to promote her designs.
Archana Kochhar, whose lines cater to an eclectic, global clientele, is one of the most sought after bridal designers of today. She has been invited by Galeries Lafayette Paris to showcase her spectacular collections with noted names such as Versace, Armani and Christian Lacroix but to name a few.
The darling of the Indian cinema glitterati, the fashion designer who has been setting international runways on fire, will now be seen promoting her latest collection at ANOKHI Media’s 12th Anniversary Awards show to be held in downtown Toronto on March 28.
Her North American premiere is sponsored by one of the beauty world’s most iconic brands, L’Oreal Paris and will feature a 20-minute runway show as part of ANOKHI MEDIA’s awards show.
“We are thrilled to partner for the first time with ANOKHI MEDIA on this exclusive event and celebrate the success of South Asians in Canada”, says Hugo Thibault, Communications and Digital Director, L’Oréal Paris Canada. “Our team of beauty experts are ready to take on the challenge of creating never before seen beauty looks for ANOKHI MEDIA’s 12th anniversary fashion show for celebrity Bollywood fashion designer, Archana Kochhar”.
The evening will begin with a red carpet celebrity reception with all of the celebrity attendees and hosts. Following that, a 3-course dinner, an awards ceremony, an exclusive industry after party and an exclusive unveiling of the commemorative coffee table book will take place. Over 800 guests are expected to attend the glamorous event.
“I am extremely thrilled to showcase my collection at the ANOKHI event in Toronto on March 28. The collection I will be showcasing is an exclusive range of evening wear,” said an ecstatic Kocchar.
Kocchar knew she wanted to be a designer ever since she was a little girl and loved dressing up. That’s when she decided she wanted to make exclusive garments of her own. Over the years, Kocchar has been credited with transforming bridal couture with dazzling designs and block patterns.
One of her all-time admirers is Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley who said: “It is always a pleasure to wear an Archana Kochhar ensemble as it always compliments my femininity in every sense of the way. I think a saree-gown is an amazing introduction of our traditional saree to the west and not only is it stunning but it drapes sensuously over every feminine curve. The outcome being bewitching.”
Kocchar has definitely come a long way, having made her mark in the fashion industry for over a decade. What advice does she have for young designers still taking their first steps?
“My advice to young designers would be to follow their heart and instinct, to fix a goal and to work towards it,” she says according to Femina Middle East. “Express your passion and imagination through your creativity and live your dream.”

Fashion as perceived by Sanjukta Das of Toronto

And I want to talk about something very close to my heart...
Personal Branding.... To me Fashion plays a huge role in Personal Branding …. Every one of you I know has a brand worthy of notice. But how do you show it in a way that is true to your values and authentic to who you are? Personal branding as I understand is not only about what you share with the outside world, but how you conduct yourself and your work/profession along with your lifestyle on a daily basis. The way I dress, the way I speak (to students in my case) and colleagues, and the attention I pay to the quality of my work are the most powerful ways I communicate what is unique and special about who I am. I would love to share a few of my secrets about personal branding today…If you feel it is adequate, feel free to apply it to yourself: Being real.
The most effective tool of connecting is not being polite and polished always, but being authentic and friendly ... it has been the topmost factor in my quality of communication Being vulnerable.
Finding ways to tell my stories of failures- both in business and in my personal life. Admitting that sometimes I am overwhelmed by family life or stumped by a work place challenge.
Believe me I did not lose friends, when I have shared my stories of failures. Instead I have been rewarded with some trusting relationships of a lifetime. Being transparent.
It is okay to talk about the true life-stories….they are more powerful than any credentials. Personal life stories, to me, are far more compelling than my academic degrees or awards. Taking a stand! Having a voice!
If I have believed in something, I talk about it … I am vocal about it! I stay positive, even when I don’t feel positive.
I meditate, I pray, I chant and I see myself feeling positive... it works for me! I persist and I never give up.
Keep on and on…. If you stay authentic to who you are and what’s important to you, strong relationships will form and people will accept you the way you are! Watch your brand evolve!
