Raksha
Bandhan, meaning "Knot of Protection" is one of the most important
festivals celebrated by Hindus throughout the world. The festival stands for
the beautiful relationship shared between brothers and sisters. A lifelong
promise of protection is made on this special occasion. It exhibits the
beautiful relationship of love, care and affection between brother and sister.
It is celebrated in India on "Sharawan Purnima" and it is also sing
of all festival starts from it. First, Krishna Ashtmi, Dusserha,, Krwa chauth,
and then Dipawali, Goverdhan or Gau Puja and finally Chhath Puja/ Sruya
Vandana. Festival ends after Kartik Purnima by taking holy deep in scared river
Ganga Maiya.

History and Significance.
Raksha Bandhan, also called Rakhi Purnima or just Rakhi, has deep rooted historical significance. The main story behind Raksha Bandhan is during the time of "Devasur Sangram" All gods, goddess and even Indra were kicked our from heaven by demons in the war. Gods were not so mighty to face the mighty demons. They had no options to stay anywhere so they went to Lord Shiva for solutions. It was this day "Shrawan Purnima" so Mata Parvati immediately tied up a yarn on the right wrist of all gods and blessed with extra divine powers for war with demons. After having tied up Raksha Sutra, gods fought war with demons and it kept on going for thousands of years. And finally, gods won the war and Indra got his throne of heaven.
Gods then came over to Kailash for darshan of Lord Shiva and Maa Bhagwati. So, since then "Raksha Sutra or bandhan" on the wrist of her brother is a guarantee for life long protection of brothers and in reply brother also guarantees for safe and security of sisters at all cost have been celebrated in Bharat.
