Statement on Ground Breaking for Phase II of Brampton Züm
Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell delivered the following remarks today during the ground breaking of Phase II of Brampton Züm:
“I would like to begin by recognizing members of City Council, along with MP Kyle Seeback and MPP Vic Dhillon. Your presence here today is important. Züm is a leading example of Brampton working with the provincial and federal governments to deliver real results for all residents.
“Brampton’s popular and extensive bus-rapid transit network is moving people faster and more efficiently throughout Brampton and the GTHA.
“Brampton’s modern, creative and competitive economy relies on world-class public transit – more people out of cars and riding transit, means more companies easily moving their goods and services along the 410, 407 and 401 highways.
“Züm’s also enhancing the quality of life for residents. Whether you’re a student heading to class at Sheridan College; a commuter going to work; a senior running errands; a tourist on their way to a performance at the Rose Theatre, or someone getting a head start on their Christmas shopping at the Bramalea City Centre; Züm will get you there.
“We have consistently seen double digit transit ridership growth year after year. We are building on our success. We are expanding our transit network. Construction has begun on the Züm Bovaird Line which will run from our celebrated Mount Pleasant community’s transit hub, to airport road.
“In 2015, Züm service will launch on Steeles Avenue, west of the new Brampton Gateway Terminal to the Lisgar GO station in Mississauga. And, in 2016, Züm service will launch along Queen Street, west of the Downtown Terminal to the Mount Pleasant GO station, via Mississauga Road.
