Deepika lifts 75-kg Imran
In most Hindi films, we?ve seen the hero lift his heroine in some or the other scene. But a heroine carrying her hero on her back is a bit difficult to imagine. Well, Deepika Padukone has done exactly that vis-à-vis Imran Khan in her forthcoming film, Break Ke Baad. Although it wasn?t easy, she managed it after some training and rehearsals.
The scene in question features as one of the montages during the song Adhoore hain?. Director Danish Aslam?s idea was to also show how Deepika?s character Aaliya Khan plays the lead in the relationship with Abhay Gulati (Imran Khan). ?Considering Aaliya leads this relationship, there are many instances of role reversals to depict that. Danish felt that showing Aaliya carrying Abhay was the perfect way to convey the drastic changes their relationship was undergoing. That?s why this particular scene is of great significance,? reveals a source.
Turns out that was easier said than done, as Imran weighs 75 kgs as against Deepika?s negligible 55 kg weight. But she underwent considerable training for about a fortnight prior to the shooting of the scene. Apart from that, we?re told that for about three-four hours, Deepika also rehearsed carrying Imran on her back but not without adequate precaution. While performing the scene she wore a thick, wide belt to ensure that she didn?t suffer any back trouble.
Deepika recalls the sequence as really ?fun to shoot.? She says, ?Everyone on the sets was worried. But being an athlete, I was confident that I?d be able to carry Imran on my back without any problem.?
On the contrary, director Aslam calls it a complicated scene. ?It?s not easy to carry 75 kgs on your back. We didn?t want Deepika to get hurt, so we exercised caution. It took us two days to complete shooting this sequence, but the end result is brilliant,? he says.
Deepika apes ex- boyfriend Ranbir in Break Ke Baad?
Deepika Padukone's character in Break Ke Baad has been modeled on her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor. Deepika plays the commitment-phobic Aalia in her upcoming film. That her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor is commitment-phobic is well-known in the industry. They were in a two year long serious relationship that didn't bear much fruit.
When Deepika heard director Danish Aslam's narration of Break Ke Baad she couldn't believe the striking similarities that her character had with Ranbir's approach to love in real life. She went home dazed, wondering if she should attempt playing the role or not. She was faced with this dilemma at a time when her relationship with Ranbir was far from being perfect.
The actress chose to take up the challenge. While Deepika remains tight lipped about this, a very close friend of hers confirmed this story and said, "Knowingly or unknowingly, she has added some nuances to her character in the film that are straight out of her past love affair with Ranbir. Besides, when an actor gets into the skin of her character, she picks up traits from people she has known personally."
Was it an easy character to play for Deepika? Her friend added, "Well, it was easy in parts, but when the scenes became very emotional and intense, it was difficult."
Imran plays a diehard SRK fan in Break Ke Baad
It is a known fact that Imran Khan plays a diehard Shah Rukh fan in his forthcoming Break Ke Baad directed by Danish Aslam. What is also known is that Imran is related to Aamir Khan and is a real-life fan of Salman Khan two people who love to hate King Khan.
But a lesser known fact is that Aamir was the first choice to play the role IK's character hero-worships in the film.
Kunal Kohli admits as much but adds, "But then, the whole mama-bhanja relationship would've got in the way of the character and the storytelling. Audiences would get distracted and would've have giggled every time Imran made an Aamir reference." Kunal and his director Danish dropped the Aamir angle from Break Ke Baad.
Says Kunal, "Aamir and Shah Rukh are both iconic heroes for the generation that Imran and Deepika represent. They're influenced by him and his films as anyone who grew up watching SRK films. Shah Rukh's Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are the ultimate romantic films for the current generation, just like Rishi Kapoor and Bobby were for mine."
Imran not only uses SRK's references to make his point, he also has a sequence where he does a take-off on King Khan. Laughs Kohli, "That's right. Imran does the Main Hoon Na signature hand-over-head movement, with his arms languidly spread out in an ardent expression of love, a la Shah Rukh. It's a signature SRK pose. And Imran did it effortlessly."
If that was not enough, Deepika also plays a wannabe actress, who also makes SRK references.
