The Usha Gupta Dance Entourage to Perform AALAAP in Mississauga for One Night Only

Mississauga, ON –   The Usha Gupta Dance Entourage from Edmonton, Alberta is heading to Ontario to bring their newest work AALAAP to Mississauga for a one night only performance at Sampradaya Theatre.  As part of Sampradaya Dance Creations signature performance program, the Kalangan Series AALAAP will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017 – 7:30pm.   The Kalangan Series : World of South Asian Art is a platform that showcases professional and established artists from across Canada as well as internationally. 
This kathak dance work has been choreographed by the legendary kathak dance pioneer Kumudini Lakhia ( kathak is classical South Asian dance form from northern India)  and will be performed by a group of five dancers including: Sudeshna Maulik, Sanjukta Sinha,  Anuj Mishra,  Marla Palakkamanil  and Riya Alika Mittal.   AALAAP is the Hindi word that means improvisation and as such, AALAAP will explore musical rhythms while going beyond traditional footwork to find new expressions of rhythm and sounds. 
Showcasing the richness and diversity of South Asian art in performance is the focus of Sampradaya’s Kalangan Series which over the years has featured exceptional artists from Canada and around the world.   “Sampradaya is fortunate to have a platform to showcase examples of the exciting South Asian arts happening in other communities and bring those talented artists to our local audience” says, Artistic Director, Lata Pada. The scheduled program will be approximately 55 minutes of performance time followed by a talk-back session with the artists.
Tickets to see AALAAP can be purchased by calling the Sampradaya office at 905-607-8434 and will be available at the door a half hour before the start of the show on the performance day.   General seating is on a first come basis.  Space is limited.
