StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-
Rahul Nath is a name that has been associated with the entertainment industry for over a decade. After making his stamp in both the UK and India, he shifted base to the USA where he now resides and has elevated his career to the next level.
Recently back from a trip to India, to promote his two movies Foreign and Compromise, he has been showing up on national television as the face of the campaigns for Travel Zoo and Virgin America. Previously he has endorsed products for campaigns related to State Farm Insurance, Neeta’s Herbal Hair Products, Disney and Nintendo.
His career began in the early 90s where his main focus was on dance and performed at sold out dance shows similar to Cirque du Soleil, Bollywood style. A chance spotting by a huge agency based in the UK, led him down the road to TV and Film, where he was a hot shot on medical dramas like Casualty (the UKs ER) and also giving hard hitting performances in movies like ‘Provoked’ and the Bollywood remake of the hit Japanese horror The Eyes in ‘Naina’
He also gained critical acclaim for his performance in West End plays like ‘The Visit’ and ‘Separate Tables’ and was swamped with great reviews and critical praise. Most notably he was praised for changing his appearance to match his character qualities as was in the ‘The Visit’ where he gained several pounds to give a plump like appearance, only then to lose it all a few months later when he performed for ‘Separate Tables’ to give a pencil thin look to his character.
In 2009 he was shipped over to the USA where he was busy shooting the Fox comedy pilot ‘The After Lyfe’s’ where he played a work assistant that gets everything wrong and tries his best to fit in to a strange but everyday working environment. He was chosen over 100 people to play that part of ‘Faagh Jabbar’ and was initially thought to be too young. However, in the audition, producers fell in love with his character portrayal and his dialogue delivery, that they immediately cast him
Since his entry into the Hollywood film industry he has managed to open many doors to his talent. His most recent talents have been seen in his latest two movies that make controversial seem like a tame word. ‘Foreign’ a movie that explores the effect society has on culture, has grabbed a number of awards for him not only in the best actor category but also as best director. In his next release ‘Compromise’, critics who have seen the preview, have mentioned that ‘it is Rahul Nath who makes you feel the most pain, because his character is so true and so real’.
And if that was not enough to boast about, he has also compiled together a series of documentaries called ‘Surreal Bombay’, which explores the dark and sad life of different settings and people in Mumbai today. His first documentary relates to eunuchs (hermaphrodites) that are disrespected and looked down upon in India. Next installments include a look at the sex trade, the rich socialites and corruption of the police departments, again all set in Mumbai
