Around the world in three days! Ontario ’s largest multicultural festival showcasing over 60 countries, represented in 36 pavilions. The Carassauga Festival of Cultures is a three day heritage celebration of inspiring performances, vibrant costumes and delicious ethnic foods: Friday, June 3rd to Sunday, June 5th, 2011; Hershey Centre and various community and cultural centres throughout Mississauga; Opening Ceremony, Friday 7-7:30 pm, Hershey Sports Centre – Outdoor Stage; Pavilion hours, Friday 7:30 pm – Midnight, Saturday 1 pm – Midnight, Sunday 1 – 7 pm.
The Opening Launch gala was held on 18th of May at Mississauga Convention Centre. The occasion was graced by Mayor Hazel McCallion, Heather Grand, Linda Siutra, Jake Dheer, Ron Lenyk, Russ Pooley, other Board Directors. Chairs of various Pavilions and singing stars were also present.
The Carassauga Festival of Cultures, is Ontario’s largest multicultural festival. Over 60 countries, represented in 26 pavilions, will celebrate their proud heritage through inspiring performances, vibrant costumes and delicious ethnic foods. Held over three days at a centralized location at the Hershey Centre, and other facilities throughout the City of Mississauga.

The Festival has become an important annual event in Mississauga’s calendar, and its popularity has steadily increased in recent years. Last year 298,272 visits were recorded at the Festival and 3,458 performers and artisans provided entertainment. Carassauga is the largest multicultural Festival in Ontario and is recognized as the second largest cultural Festival in Canada in terms of visits & ethnic diversity representation.
New this Year! Carassauga Enhanced Guided Excursion Packages:
This is a brand new way of enjoying the tastes and sounds of Carassauga! This new package has been created for people who want to visit the Carassauga Festival in an “enhanced” special way. It’s for people who want an organized, easy, accessible, hassle-free, all-inclusive experience! Package includes choice of one pre set tour package of “designated” Pavilions, inclusive of Pavilion entry, door-to-door transportation, personal tour guide and a progressive cultural dining experience across the Pavilions visited (includes appetizer & beverage, dinner, dessert & coffee or tea). A tour guide on each bus provides an overview of the cultural aspects of the Pavilion/ country being visited, entertainment overview & ensures the crowd is seated, served, and departs on time. Reserved seating at Pavilions & “front of the line” access to Pavilions is included in package. The fee is $75 each and there are a limited number of guided excursion tickets available.

Also new this year is a bigger and better Canadian Pavilion, which will offer a sample of cultures and activities, from all parts of our Canadian cultural mosaic, not showcased in other pavilions. Enjoy celebrated Canadian specialties, such as Beaver Tails, Poutine, pulled-pork and more! The Canadian Pavilion will take place at the Hershey Sports Centre, in a large outdoor tent.

Carassauga is an incorporated non-profit volunteer community organization, in its 26th year of Festival operation. Carassauga ranks today as Mississauga’s second longest running community Festival, the largest multicultural Festival in Ontario and is recognized as the second largest cultural Festival in Canada in terms of visits and ethnic diversity representation. It operated for the first time in 1986 with 10 Pavilions, initially operating only on Saturday and Sunday. Carassauga was created in response to a challenge put out by the Mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion, to all ethno cultural groups at a meeting of her calling in the old City Hall in the fall of 1985.
It quickly evolved into a 3-day, 22-hour event and produced with over 4,600 dedicated volunteers who gave more than 386,000 of hours of their time. Mayor Hazel McCallion is still to this day, the Honorary Chair of Carassauga.
