BILLIONS IN MISSING AND UNCOSTED SPENDING IN IGNATIEFF PLATFORM
Platform will increase taxes, kill jobs and stall our economic recovery
TORONTO– The Michael Ignatieff election platform has missing promises, uncosted promises, and numbers that don’t add up said Conservative candidate Jim Flaherty today.  The result: massive tax hikes that will kill jobs and stall our economic recovery.

“The Ignatieff numbers just don't add up,” said Jim Flaherty.  “There's a huge multi-billion dollar hole in the middle of Ignatieff’s platform and Canadians will not be fooled by his smoke and mirrors.  Michael Ignatieff will raise your taxes.”
Ignatieff has recently made several high-profile spending promises that he did not include or cost in his platform, including:
Funding for pro-sports arenas and stadiums across the country (CTV.ca, March 14, 2011)
A new billion dollar bridge in Montreal (Le Journal de Montreal, March 27, 2011)
Harmonizing sales taxes in Quebec (Canadian Press, March 14, 2011)
Ignatieff’s platform includes billions of dollars in promises that are not costed:
Pharmacare (Liberal platform, p. 38)
High-speed rail (Liberal Platform, p.17)

“The Ignatieff platform is just not credible,” said Jim Flaherty.  “The only way Michael Igantieff can pay for his billions in hidden spending is through massive tax increases that will kill jobs and stall our economic recovery.”

Canadians have a choice between Stephen Harper’s low-tax plan that includes responsible, targeted and affordable help for Canadians — a plan that respects provincial jurisdiction — and the Ignatieff-led Coalition’s high tax plan that will kill jobs, stall our economic recovery and put Canadian families back.
