Sangeeta's Point: Color your lips

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-You must have wondered why some lip colors look good on you and some don’t? It has all to do with your skin tone, warm or cool. Lighter skin tones are for cool colors, mostly Lilac, plums, reds with blue undertone, or colors with name of berries. Darker skin tones should always wear warm colors. These are earthy names, sandalwood, amber and rust. A lot of us argue if we should wear just one color for every outfit or have a palette of lip colors.

Lip colors have to complement your look, not your outfit. It’s certainly not recommended to wear a lip color to match your wardrobe, hair or eye color or eyebrow; lip colors are to be chosen based on our skin color. Most Asians have skin with yellow undertones so you must avoid the orange, pink or reds with blue undertones. Once you determine your color family, it becomes very easy to choose any make-up.

Whatever may be the reason or season, we add color to our lips, to enhance our looks. It’s is not just adding color and texture to the lips, it’s the health of the lips that is very important to consider. Usually those that are lead free and preferably perfume free, those that condition and moisturise your lips and of course last you long through the day are considered good. They are various ways of applying Lip colors, the way we apply it defines our moods and occasion. Lip pencils add character to the shape of our mouth; we can make it look fuller or thinner, but wouldn’t want to wander away too much.

Lip pencils can be bought in several colors for different looks, a few shades lighter or darker than your lipstick, outside the lip line for fuller lips or inside for the thinner look or sometimes may just want to redefine natural lip line, can also be combined by two shades. Lip pencils control lipstick bleed, they can also be used for fill-in, and it lasts much longer than lipsticks.

Lip gloss can be used by itself or applied on the lipstick for that pretty look, but remember to wear it a shade lighter, do not forget the color family. You can apply the natural gloss by itself with no additional make up, for the simple classy look on a bright day.
