The Ontario Pops Orchestra Presents HARRY POTTER & THE MAGIC OF MUSIC Friday, May 19 at 8pm
Conductor Carlos Bastidas has announced HARRY POTTER & THE MAGIC OF MUSIC, the third concert of the Ontario Pops 2017 Season. HARRY POTTER & THE MAGIC OF MUSIC will take place Friday, May 19 at 8pm at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute. The concert will feature the 50-piece pops orchestra performing Beethoven's Ode To Joy, the cosmic sounds of Jupiter from The Planets by Gustav Holst, The Pink Panther, plus Glinka's heroic Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture, John Williams' Dry Your Tears, Africa, and of course, The Best of Harry Potter. The Ontario Pops will be joined by the Etobicoke Collegiate Institute Choir, the Etobicoke Youth Choir, and Ave Choir Toronto. The Ontario Pops is Canada's newest full-scale non-profit orchestra dedicated to performing the world's most popular light classics and today's movie, television, and video games hits. Repertoire includes soundtracks like Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars, Billboard chart toppers like Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and Bruno Mars Greatest Hits, plus the best of Broadway, holiday favourites, and the greatest music of all time like Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet", Dvorak's Symphony 9 "From The New World", and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance.
Starting an orchestra from the ground up is a challenge, but founder Carlos Bastidas has always been an advocate of the importance of music in the community in large part thanks to the influence of his conducting professor Maestro Rodolfo Saglimbeni, a founding member of "El Sistema", Venezuela's monumental music education program, under whom Carlos trained at England's Sherborne School of Music.
Conductor Carlos Bastidas does double duty as Conductor of the Ontario Pops and the Durham Chamber Orchestra in Ajax.
