AWIC presents Kavisammelan with Hindi Sahtiya Sabha in Toronto

Poetry in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi in celebration of women empowerment in Toronto.
On 12th March 2016 “AWIC” a leading community organization of Canada organized poetry reading of Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi poets residing in Canada in association with the literary organization “Hindi Sahitya Sabha”. The event, coordinated and conducted by Meena Chopra and Anil Purohit, was in celebration of International women’s day.

The event idea was the brainchild of Priti Lamba the present President of AWIC in promotion of the Hindi language in Canada. She was very excited and happy about the event and said, “these kind of literary events synergize the individuals and the community and we need to have them happening frequently here in Toronto. These are the kind of events that unite, bind and uplift the community and this is the need of the day”. Present President of Hindi Sahitya Sabha, Mr. Anil Purohit was the Master of Ceremony and conducted the entire afternoon beautifully.

It was attended by known and eminent poets including Devendra Mishra, Shiam Tripathi, Sameer lal, Meena Chopra, Anil Purohit, Tahir Aslam Gora, Jagmohan Sanga, Kuldeep, Jahan Munawar, Sudha Mishra, Raj Kashyap, Kamaljeet Kamal, Parveen Sultana, Raj Maheswari, Sarojini Johar, Gopal Baghel, Farhat Sujaat, Junaid Akhtar and many more.

The message of Unity, Growth, and Woman empowerment was very clear in the entire poetry session. Most of the poetry was touching and uniquely depicted the changing social scenario of woman and her being gradually empowered with changing times. The many aspects of female force came out strongly in the poetry of the poets. Poems also well reflected the traditional and the four fold status-role of a woman as a daughter, wife, housewife, and mother juxtaposed to a new and modern emancipated woman.

The event was held at AWIC office located at Sheppard avenue, Toronto. Priti Lamba, and her Board Members, Kamlesh Oberoi, Bhavna Tailor, Vanita Pais, Neetu Gill, Sheela Barot, Shelly Srivastav, and other members of AWIC enthusiastically participated in the event. AWIC also served a sumptuous lunch for the participants and guests before the poetry meet.

Aruna Bhatnagar the past Vice President of AWIC and past President Hindi Sahitya Sabha, Haleema Sadia and Tahir Aslam Gora of Tag TV and Bhupinder Virdi CEO StarBuzzMedia, amongst many others were also present for the event.
