Rina Singha and Danny Grossman

Experience the joy and excitement of kathak rhythms beyond the fast footwork, with the world premiere of Circle of Bricks: Rhythms of Kathak Dance.
Circle of Bricks presents kathak, the classical dance of the temples and courts of North India, as never seen before. A tribute to Rina Singha’s guru, Shambhu Maharaj, Circle of Bricks engages audiences through a rich tapestry of dramatic expression, captivating percussion and rhythms, and insightful interpretations of ancient court poetry. This production also features “The Tower,” a contemporary retelling of the story of Babel.
Featuring Canadian kathak artists Hemant and Vaishali Panwar, Reshmi Chetram, Shanta Chikarmane, Nisheeth Nirjhum Proshanti, Chad Walasek and guest artist Eddie Kastrau, along with apprentices Divya Gossai, Sharda Samaroo, Neetika Sharma and Farzana Aluddin.

Rina Singha is an unstoppable dynamo who presents this new creation at the age of 76. Drawing on training she received from a guru who taught her to dance inside a circle of bricks – a painful way to learn not to misstep – Rina offers a rich kathak experience.
