Bonnie was elected as the City Councillor for Ward 5 in a September 2011 by-election. Since her election, she has accomplished a great deal for the residents of Ward 5.
Before becoming a councillor, Bonnie was the Member of Parliament for Mississauga—Streetsville, serving in important leadership roles, such as the chair of her party’s GTA caucus, as an Official Opposition critic and as a member of the Infrastructure Committee.
As a Member of Parliament, Bonnie focused on ensuring the government played a positive role improving the lives of families and supporting our community. She worked closely with all levels of government to make sure Mississauga’s needs were met and that our community was a priority. As a member of the Official Opposition, Bonnie advocated strongly for economic stimulus funds that ultimately provided millions of dollars of investments in roads and community buildings across Mississauga. Before serving in elected office, Bonnie worked for several Fortune 500 companies including the Walt Disney Corporation and McDonald’s. She successfully practiced public affairs and co-founded a successful Canadian business, Cargo Cosmetics. Her experience in the private sector gives Bonnie a unique perspective on the important role that business plays in the prosperity of our city.
She has a lengthy history of community leadership and volunteer service, including serving on the board of the Eden Community Food Bank and as the vice-chair of the Mississauga Mayor’s Taskforce on the Arts. Bonnie has dedicated her time to various charitable and not-for-profit boards, including the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, Peel Region 11th Division Police Community Liaison Committee, the Ontario Brain Injury Association and Arts Umbrella.
Bonnie has an MBA, and speaks French, Polish and Ukrainian. With her husband Brian, she has raised three children—Alex, Jonathan and Natasha—here in Mississauga.
