City Hall: Brampton is a world-class city and it gives me immense pleasure to welcome fans, coaches and the globally renowned athletes who will compete at our facilities, Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell said today.
Fennell made the comments during the media launch of the 2013 Men’s Pan American Cup – Field Hockey tournament which will take place from August 10 to 17. The games will be held at Cassie Campbell Community Centre.
Regional Councillor Paul Palleschi said “Cassie Campbell Community Centre is one of Brampton’s premier athletic facilities. Brampton is the only city in Ontario to boast an international grade water-based turf. By investing in our community, we are able to attract global competitions.”
Minster Gosal said “Hosting international sport events like this offers an opportunity for our athletes to compete against some of the best in the world, while bringing about a welcome boost to the local economy.”
The event will see teams from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and the United States competing for qualification in the 2014 Hockey World Cup to be held in The Hague, Netherlands, and the Pan Am Games set for Toronto in 2015.
Fennell concluded “I also want to acknowledge the volunteers, organizers and City staff, who are working tirelessly to ensure the 2013 Men’s Pan American Cup – Field Hockey tournament will be a resounding success.”
