2013 Media Summit- August 19, 2013!

  • 2013MediaSummit, hosted by Sarah-Jean VIlla: http://t.co/egBEGmZVtv.

Last summer, over 10 multitalented artists got together at the state-of-the-art Rogers Theatre at the Living Arts to present their films, followed by a Q & A session with each of the filmmakers at the inaugural Meet the Media Makers of Mississauga Event. Talents collided to form a fusion of art ranging from short films to documentaries about archery and break dancing, horror flicks as well as shorts with captivating topics and all for a good cause! Money raised went directly to the Canadian DeafBlind Association, benefiting those that are not as fortunate to see and hear the moving picture. Produced by the Mississauga Arts Council (MAC), along with New Village Filmworks’ Independent Filmmaker, Jeffrey W. Pike, the evening was fun, entertaining, and an eye opening celebration of local Mississauga media arts and the artists behind the work!
This year, MAC is back in full force with another media spectacle, the 2013 Media Summit that will take place this summer on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 7-9pm at the Rogers Theatre of the Living Arts Centre, located at 4141 Living Arts Drive. The red carpet will commence at 6:30 p.m. with live streaming courtesy of Live Eye Media (www.livestream.com/mississaugalive). The event will be two fold, incorporating a Q&A with a panel of experts during the first half, followed by “the Pitch” sessions during the second part, moderated by artist, Sarah-Jean Villa. Artists of all disciplines are invited to participate in this highly acclaimed event, celebrating the medium of film while incorporating a rich mosaic of different art forms.

“The Pitch”: Artists were invited to submit a 2 page proposal along with a 1 minute video trailer (submitted in the form of a link and mailed in the form of a hardcopy DVD) summarizing the premise of their multimedia project. This included any creative venture a visual, literary, performing or media artist had conjured. The goal of this multimedia project is to raise awareness of a social issue in Mississauga. The winner will be the one whose work would have the biggest impact in the citizens of the CIty. The deadline for submissions was July 1, 2013. The top 5 submissions will be chosen to present their ideas LIVE during the day of the event.

Groups/individuals will have a total of 4 minutes for their presentation. The structure of the presentation is as follow: The showcasing of the 1 minute video trailer about the project (prepared and submitted in advance) followed by 3 minutes to explain the project in detail (presentations will be times accordingly). The judges will give back feedback for 1 minute, totaling 5 minutes for each presentation. Winner will be announced by the end of the evening after the judges have had a chance to discuss all 5 candidates during the 30 minute intermission.

Think of this style of competition like Canadian Idol or So You Think You Can Dance, except in this case, candidates are not singing or dancing. Instead, they are presenting/performing their creative ideas!

6 Judges/Experts include: Donna Messer of ConnectUs Canada; Donna Papacosta, the Chair of the Professional Independent Communicators within the IABC, Toronto Chapter (International Association of Business Communicators) and Founder of Trafalgar Communications; Roman Zebik from Roman Music; Lisa Lyons, President of Kids Can Press; as well as Richard Young and Evert Houston, two youth representing YEAA, a division of ACTRA.

The competition is open to only to MAC members. The winner will receive extensive media coverage and a cash prize. Good luck to all that apply!

Inspire Cosmetics will be on the scene of the red carpet prior to the show to do makeup for everyone that attends and we will also be doing a raffle and giving away gift certificates to Jack Astor's and a plethora of other freebies!
