The Mississauga
Arts Council (MAC) is back in full force with another media spectacle, the 2013 Media Summit that will take place this summer on
Monday, August 19, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rogers Theatre of the Living
Arts Centre. The event will be two fold, incorporating a Q&A with a panel
of experts during the first half, followed by “the Pitch” sessions during the
second part, moderated by artist, Sarah-Jean Villa. Artists of all disciplines
are invited to participate in this highly acclaimed event, celebrating the
medium of film while incorporating a rich mosaic of different art forms. Get
your submissions in now! The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2013. Artists
are invited to submit a two page proposal along with a one minute video trailer
(submitted in the form of a link) summarizing the premise of their multimedia
project. This can be any creative venture a visual, literary, performing or
media artist has conjured. Ideas can
range from a public art installation in Port Credit to a documentary on the
life of a Mississaugan. The goal of this multimedia project is to raise
awareness of a social issue in Mississauga. The winner will be the one whose
work would have the biggest impact in the citizens of the City. Please email
your proposals to MAC Communications Coordinator, Luiza Sadowski at media@mississaugaartscouncil.com. The top 5
submissions will be chosen to present their ideas LIVE during the day of the
event. Groups and individuals will have a total of 4 minutes for their
presentation. The structure of the
presentation is as follow: The showcasing of the 1 minute video trailer about
the project (prepared and submitted in advance) followed by 3 minutes to
explain the project in detail (presentations will be times accordingly). The
judges will give back feedback for 1 minute, totaling 5 minutes for each
presentation. Winner will be announced by the end of the evening after the
judges have had a chance to discuss all 5 candidates during the 30 minute
intermission. Think of this style of competition like Canadian Idol or So You Think
You Can Dance, except in this case, candidates are not singing or dancing.
Instead, they are presenting/performing their creative ideas! Judges include
Donna Messer of ConnectUs Canada and Donna Papacosta, the Chair of the
Professional Independent Communicators within the IABC, Toronto Chapter
(International Association of Business Communicators) and Founder of Trafalgar
Communications, as well as many more (TBC). The competition is open to only
Mississauga residents. You must be or become a MAC member to participate. The
winner will receive extensive media coverage. Good luck to all that apply! If
you have any questions about any part of this process or event, please contact
Luiza Sadowski at media@mississaugaartscouncil.com or call 905-615-4214. The

The Drowsy Chaperone is back this spring!
Music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Book by Bob Martin and Don
McKellar. The Drowsy Chaperone pays tribute to the Jazz-age shows of the 1920s
and the power those shows held to transport us into a dazzling fantasy and to
lift our spirits in times of sadness. The audience is greeted by the narrator,
Man in Chair, sitting on a darkened stage. He is a fan of vintage musicals that
seems to be suffering from free-floating depression, and quickly decides to
cheer things up by playing a record of the original cast recording of a
(fictional) Broadway musical entitled, The
Drowsy Chaperone. No sooner has the needle touched the record than we,
together with the narrator, are transported to a 1928 Broadway theatre and into
the Drowsy Chaperone, a play-within-a-play crammed full of every cliché, gag
and gimmick from the golden age of musicals. The show takes place at 8 p.m. on May
10, and at 2 p.m. on May 11, 2013. For more information and tickets, please
call 416-248-0410.
