Produced by MAC, the MARTYS are the pinnacle of excitement and publicity for Mississauga’s thriving arts community. This year's MARTYS will be hosted by fresh new talent, local actor and comedian, Tristan Barrocks. Tristan is also nominated in the emerging media arts category and his production company, Word Made Flesh (WMF) is nominated in the emerging performing group arts category. He promises to put a whole new spin on the show this year!
The award show will start at 8 p.m. and feature an exhilarating lineup of entertainment, including the Johnny Max Band, jazz sensation the Alma Quartet, the ConBrio Singers, the Cawthra Dancers, and Zohra Zoberi together with Vibonics. Local musician, Kyle Fraser will serenade guests at the VIP after party and the group Marielba, Eduardo & Greg will be playing their Spanish ballades during the red carpet reception avec hors d'oeuvres commencing promptly at 6:30 p.m.
The MARTY Awards celebrate the artistic achievements of the city’s established artists while encouraging and supporting emerging artistic talent. The MARTYS have been described as an important launch for many Mississauga artists’ careers. Past finalists and winners have moved on to find their place in the international artistic community. This year there are a grand total of 91 artists in the running for the awards. The calibre of artistic talent is exceptional. Categories include emerging and established literary arts, media arts, performing and performing group arts, visual arts, as well as the creative community award. The Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award will also be recognized with a unique award presentation. The People’s Choice Award will also be presented the evening of the ceremony. This year, the artistic style of the trophies are like you've never seen them before- think Salvador Dali surrealist style type.
