Vancouver, BC – The Times of India group is extremely dismayed by the inaccurate statements reported in Canadian media regarding the development of the upcoming Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA) to be held April 4-6, 2013 in locations throughout the lower mainland of British Columbia.
There has been the suggestion that the timing of the event was at the request of the British Columbia government; in fact, the selection of the dates was at the insistence of the Times of India Group so as not to compete with the existing awards season in India and allow the maximum number of Hindi Film stars to attend. At no time did any government official suggest that the Awards must occur prior to the upcoming British Columbia provincial election.
“Most of the awards in India are hosted in January and at the latest in February of the new year, given the weather in British Columbia at that time of year, and given the fact that there is already a similar June event in India, we insisted that our organization would only consider an event between the end of March and beginning of April,” says Chief Operating Officer for the Times of India Group Sameer Soni. “We have been extremely clear from the outset with media as well as government, discussions of an event outside of that window was a non starter.”
“We believe that TOIFA is an exceptional platform to connect British Columbia with the Indian diaspora around the globe and as a vehicle for tourism and trade for British Columbia,” says Soni.
