A Walk through History Art Exhibit with 90 year old Wanda
Nowotko!
90 year old Wanda Nowotko is one of many Polish women in this age bracket that
experienced the atrocities of the war, communism and constant fear during their
younger teenage years and never gave up, continuing to live their lives to the
fullest and she has many stories and experiences to share about her rich past. Although
Polish, Wanda loves meeting people of all different cultures and relating to
them as an artist. After coming to Canada 50 years ago, she was able to find
women in a similar age range with similar experiences that ran away from their
situation at a young age. Each woman has a diverse experience and Canada has
brought them together. To this day, they live in their luxurious condos, dress
up, take care of themselves and are grateful for everything they have. Wanda
loves that Mississauga is so multicultural. She belongs to a community of
international artists from all across the world including India, Chinese, to
name a few. Wanda would like to especially stress that, “In Mississauga, there
are a lot of seniors and not everyone is in a retirement home. There are many
energetic and independent successful women like me that live in this city who
are active, productive, and have passions who want to make a difference through
their art on a daily basis.” She and many of her friends look up to Mississauga
Mayor Hazel McCallion for inspiration because they can relate to her age and
energy. Wanda continues, “the best medicine for women of my age is to meet at
least once a week to talk about everything on our minds whether its parties,
politics or world affairs and support and motivate each other to welcome the
experience of a new day. We plan Caribbean vacations together, outings, and
parties. Even at our age, we know how to live it up.” This helps them live
stronger, complain less about what they don’t have, reminisce about the good
times and have sincere gratitude for just being alive. Wanda will be
celebrating her next birthday on February 10, 2013 and would like to invite you
to view her exquisite art exhibit in the comfort of her own home, located at 550
Webb Dr., #1105. Please call her to book an interview at 905-273-7580.
Alternatively, you can contact the Mississauga Arts Council at 905-615-4214 or media@mississaugaartscouncil.com
to set up an interview with Wanda.
