Welcomes three announcements that will help foster Canada-India collaboration.

November 7, 2012 - Chandigarh - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and
Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, launches the new Canada Pavilion at the Hatch for Startups (the Hatch), which will serve as an incubation ground for high-potential Indian entrepreneurs and visiting Canadian entrepreneurs.
During his visit to the Hatch, Minister Fast welcomed three agreements between the Hatch and Canadian entities that will help foster entrepreneurs and Canada-India collaboration:
  • Extreme Startups of Toronto signed an agreement to facilitate cross-border mentoring, create a platform for cross-border angel investment in Canadian and Indian startups, share insights and market-entry assistance among entrepreneurs, and offer office space to visiting entrepreneurs.
  • Venture Cap TV of MontrĂ©al signed an agreement to create an Indian Internet channel dedicated to venture capital, angel investment and entrepreneurship. The joint venture will share content and improve the visibility of startups and venture capitalists in Canada and India.
  • Ryerson University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to undertake skills development and student entrepreneur exchange programs. As a part of the MOU, Ryerson will exchange content and faculty from Ryerson to conduct learning sessions for startups, and the Hatch for Startups will provide inputs and insights to select portfolio companies of the Digital Media Zone (the incubator of Ryerson University) and offer office space to visiting entrepreneurs.
Trade between India, one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, and Canada is increasing. The strength of the ties between the two countries is also reflected in the estimated 1 million Canadians of Indian origin.
Minister Fast is accompanying Prime Minister Stephen Harper on a state visit to India from November 3 to 9, 2012.
