Singh has been at the helm of the National Security scene since Jan 2005. Having been born in undivided India in 1945; he is the third generation to serve the glorious Army, a saga of three generation’s service to the Nation and the Indian Army, spanning almost a century from 1914-2011.
It is a story of a sepoy’s son who became a colonel, and the colonel’s son who rose to be a four star general. In his own inimitable style, which has characterised his persona also, General JJ attempts to pen down in a lucid and forthright manner his military career, combat experiences and challenges faced in life – a success story which took him to the zenith of the Army. He has been one of the youngest officer of his NDA batch, and a ‘front runner from the start to finish’, in this arduous and challenging journey. He was always the ‘first’ amongst his peers to clear various bench marks stipulated in the Army such as the Staff College, Higher Command and National Defence Courses, and was considered a ‘high flyer’ and counted among the ‘crème de la crème’ of his batch.
