MISSISSAUGA, ON – The arts community is exuberant about the success of the Mississauga Arts Council’s third annual ARTBEATS Gala and Reception held on October 26, 2012 at the Mississauga Convention Centre. Mississauga’s thriving arts scene was celebrated with an astonishing evening of unique and wonderful art, international cuisine, rock n’ roll entertainment and community at the event. The Mississauga Arts Council would like to thank the media and arts supporters who helped to make the event a huge sensation! MAC thanks the hardworking volunteers, sponsors, Board members, supporters and artists who contributed to the event’s achievement.
The red carpet event kicked off with a wonderful sangria fountain and featured the Identity Crisis (also known as Paul Castro), who serenaded everyone at the reception on the piano. Over 76 silent auction items were on display which included original artworks donated by artists from the community, South Asian fashions and unique items. The 13 live auction items brought a lot of excitement to the gala, with Executive Director, Linda Thomas modeling some latest fashions. What’s on? TAP! came out on the dance floor in full force and put on an extravagant number!
Even Mayor Hazel McCallion was inspired to participate in the bid, unexpectedly auctioning off a lunch with her at the Living Arts Centre. The lucky bidder won it for $750 dollars! CEO of the Living Arts Centre, Ron Lenyk also gave away some tickets to the musical, Shrek. ARTBEATS ended on a high note as Mississauga’s 50’s band, Little Peter and the Elegants got the whole crowd dancing to some of the best rock n’ roll classics. You couldn’t help but notice the Mississauga Arts Council’s own dancing sensation, VP Brian Crombie. During the celebration, MAC President Bohdan Shulakewych emphasized the importance of the arts, calling out for support from the whole community. Bohdan Shulakewych said that he was keen to reach out to businesses to ensure that they recognize the city's up-and-coming arts scene and help it thrive.
Last year, the fundraiser raised 16 thousand dollars. The funds are still being tallied for this year. All proceeds raised at ARTBEATS will benefit the community at large as MAC continues to make Mississauga one of Canada’s most creative cities. Please call 905-615-4278 to donate.
