Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark Citizenship Week, which runs from October 15-21, 2012:
“Every year, during Citizenship Week, we celebrate what it means to be Canadian and reflect upon the immense privileges we enjoy: living in a peaceful and prosperous society where our rights are protected and the rule of law is respected and enforced.
“These qualities are why Canada is regarded as one of the best countries in the world to live and work, and why we proudly welcome tens of thousands of immigrants and refugees each year.
“As we celebrate all those who help shape the Canada we know and love, let us be reminded of the immense privilege that is Canadian citizenship and let us remember how very fortunate we are to call this country home.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I congratulate and welcome all new Canadians on becoming citizens of our great nation.”
