STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER OF CANADA ON CANADIAN ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEES

www.insurancerate.com StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today congratulating Canadian nominees of the 84thAcademy Awards:

"On behalf of the entire country, I extend my congratulations to all Canadians nominated for this year's Academy Awards. Exciting highlights include the film Monsieur Lazhar, Canada’s official submission for best foreign language film, Christopher Plummer for his work in Beginners (best supporting actor), Howard Shore for the film Hugo (best original score), and two National Film Board of Canada animated short films, Dimanche/Sunday and Wild Life. All of our Oscar nominees showcase Canadian talent and excellence in the international film industry.

“Our Government recognizes the significant cultural and economic contributions that the film and television industry makes in our society and that is why it supports Canada’s artists, creators, and cultural leaders. 

“The Government of Canada invests more than $600 million annually in the audiovisual sector, including support for the Canada Feature Film Fund and support to help finance eligible film and television productions through two separate tax credits. This support helps create the conditions necessary for Canada to be a world leader in the film and television industry.

 “As we approach this year’s Academy Awards, I wish all Canadian nominees the best of luck."
