PRIME MINISTER WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF NEW PUBLIC SECTOR INTEGRITY COMMISSIONER

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-OTTAWA  Prime Minister Stephen Harper today welcomed the appointment of Mario Dion as the new Public Sector Integrity Commissioner.  This appointment, which was recently approved by the Senate and the House of Commons, is effective December 21, 2011. Mr. Dion has been serving as Interim Public Sector Integrity Commissioner since December 2010.

“I am pleased the Parliament of Canada has approved the new Public Sector Integrity Commissioner,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Mario Dion brings a strong legal background and a lengthy experience in the public sector to what is a vital post.”

The Public Sector Integrity Commissioner is an Officer of Parliament created in 2007 under the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act. The Office of the Commissioner provides a safe and confidential mechanism enabling public servants and the general public to disclose wrongdoings committed in the public sector. It also protects from reprisal public servants who have disclosed wrongdoing and those who have cooperated in investigations.
