Get terrific music, dance & community viz at the sixth annual urbanNOISE, a free all-ages urban arts festival making noise against violence in the culturally vibrant communities of Rexdale/Jamestown in north Etobicoke
WHAT: Rising hip-hop star Reema Major headlines the sixth annual urbanNOISE festival - a free, all-ages urban arts festival organized by young people in the Rexdale/Jamestown communities to inspire the community to stand up to violence.
A large graffiti mural - "R.I.P: Six Degrees of Separation" - will be unveiled. It will display the names of Rexdale residents that have died from violence, and community members will be invited to add names to it at the festival.
WHO: -16-year-old Reema Major is one of Canada's fastest rising rap talents. She participated in the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards cipher is signed to a joint venture with Universal Music Canada and Interscope Records (USA). She recently released her third mixtape, I Am Legend.

A joint production of Expect Theatre (who recently created the highly acclaimed AWAKE for the Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival honouring those lost to gun violence) and Arts Etobicoke, urbanNOISE provides free arts-based workshops as well as part-time employment and mentorship through its Ambassador Program to youth in North Etobicoke while fighting the popular perception of Rexdale as a gang war zone.

- Renowned U.S.-based Grammy-winning beatboxer Scratch, considered one of the best vocal percussionists in the world. A member of legendary hip hop group The Roots, his newest album features Kanye West and Talib Kweli.
- Local rap artists: LP Da Original, Flip Watson, The Freedom Writers (Big Sproxx, Theology 3, Tona, Adam Bomb, Progress, Frankie Payne, Mathematik)
