StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-January 7, 2011:  Film: Ashoka the Hero

Genre: Period- contemporary, Animation.
Director: Gaurav Jain
Rating:***

Ashoka The Hero is a movie about a small boy of about eight, whose father, a policeman by profession was killed while trying to catch hold of a robbery in the offing. Ashoka was still a toddler when his dad had met with a tragic death and thus he had no memories of him.

However,  this did not stop little Ashoka to aspire to be as brave as his dad was. The ambition that this little heroic lad had was soon spotted by a very powerful sage called Masa. Now the twist comes after this as Masa is none other than the son of the famous historical figure emperor Ashoka of medieval times.

Thus as Masa finds Ashoka, the small boy to be very brave and full of life, he hands over a magic medallion to the lad.

This magical medallion has been greatly powered by the energies of the Sun. The sage then instructs Ashoka, the hero to save his city from any kind of bad events or misfortunes that might be lurking large.

Thus begins the saga of the small child as he is busy saving his city Mumbai from many problematic situations with the help of the medallion. Ashoka is seen stopping a plane crash, fighting the wicked scientist called Dr. Ferno on the recently opened Bandra- Worli sea link etc. The adventures are truly very thrilling and kids are sure to have a great time watching little Ashoka turn into a real life hero with the help of the medallion.

The animation film has a distinct touch of contemporary society and dialogues are also much relevant with the times. Parents and kids are likely to enjoy this animation flick without batting an eyelid.
