StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-To commemorate the 62nd Republic Day of India, a ceremony was held at the Consulate General of India in Toronto at 0930 hrs. on 26th January 2011 at its premises at Bloor Street (East). The Indo-Candians participated enthusiastically in the event and also included famous industrialists and eminent personalities of Indo Canadian society.
Honourable Consul General Mrs. Preeti Saran read out excerpts from Honourable President of India’s Address to the Nation on the eve of Republic Day. Mrs. Saran also took the opportunity to welcome the Indo Canadians in joining with the celebrations of year long ‘Festival of India’ in Canada, the mini Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas in June as also the IIFA Awards ceremony in end June. This was followed by National Anthem and other patriotic songs and poems read out by Indo Canadians.
The Consul General recognized Mrs. Lata Pada who was recently conferred with the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman by the President of India at the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas 2011 in New Delhi. In honouring her, Mrs Saran said, the Government of India had honoured the entire Indian diaspora in Canada.
