Revolution begins worldwide on 3rd Dec.

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto- Mumbai, 11th Nov. 2010: PVR Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions’ much-awaited period thriller Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (KHJJS) is set to release all over on Dec.3rd, 2010. The film is directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar (of Lagaan & Jodha Akbar fame) and it stars Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Sikander Kher.

Abhishek Bachchan will play the lead role as the daring Surjya Sen (fondly called Masterda) who led the uprising. Ashutosh Gowariker confirmed and said, “Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is is a period-thriller film with Abhishek playing Surjya Sen based on the Chittagong Uprising of 1930. I have purchased the rights of the book Do and Die by Manini Chatterjee. Little to almost nothing is known about the Chittagong Uprising and I thought it important to be brought forward to the nation. It is a true story and yet we know so little about it, hence my desire to bring it onto the big screen. Few realise that the Chittagong Armoury Raid is one of India's greatest freedom struggles. The film is about young revolutionaries who play with their very lives, hence the reason behind the title Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey."
The period thriller set in Chittagong, British India, revolves around a series of attacks executed in one single night on April 18, 1930 and its aftermath. This force of five experienced revolutionaries, two defiant and resolute women – Kalpana Datta (played by Deepika) and Pritilata Waddedar, and a group of innocent but fearless young boys, was led by Surjya Sen (played by Abhishek), a school teacher by profession, and carried out attacks on the British Cantonment AFI Armoury, Police Lines, European Club, Telegraph Office and Nangalkote Railway Lines.
Gowariker’s first period thriller, the film is based on the book ‘DO and DIE: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34’ by Manini Chatterjee and has been shot in Goa, Sawantwadi and Mumbai. A PVR Pictures Presentation of an Ashutosh Gowariker Productions’ film, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film has been produced jointly by Ajay Bijli, Sanjeev K. Bijli and Sunita A. Gowariker. Also starring in supporting roles Vishakha Singh, Samrat, Maninder, Feroz Wahid Khan and Shreyas Pandit. The music is by Sohail Sen. The film is distributed overseas by Cinergy Independent Films Services.

ABOUT ‘DO AND DIE’:
On 18 April 1930 at around 10pm., a group of teenagers challenged the might of the British Empire through a series of raids in Chittagong. Their actions stunned the colonial rulers and ignited the spark of rebellion throughout Bengal. In Do and Die journalist Manini Chatterjee, drawing upon hitherto unpublished extracts from police records and government files, reconstructs the events of that fateful night. What happened in the ensuing three years is vividly narrated. Though she has only reported the true incidents.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey will hit theatres on December 3, 2010.
