KHJJS Set To Inspire Every Indian Worldwide

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Ashutosh Gowarikar inspired by the “Chittagong uprising of 1930,” wherein teenagers fought for their motherland.
‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ is directed by one of contemporary Indian cinema’s most acclaimed directors, the Oscar-nominated Ashutosh Gowariker (‘Lagaan’, ‘Jodha Akbar’), hailed for his immaculate cinematic outings inspired by some of India’s most historic milestones.  Marking Ashutosh Gowariker’s first period thriller, the film is based on the book ‘DO and DIE: The Chittagong Uprising 1930’ by Manini Chatterjee.

With KHJJS, Ashutosh returns to his forte. In the past he has given great films like Lagaan, Swades and Jhodha Akbar.
All his past films have drawn inspirations from the historical incidents and characters. But this time it is a true incident from the Indian freedom struggle. His past works were also well researched and adapted. But this time he brings to light a most violent revolution from the Indian independence struggle. The Chittagong uprising of 1930, which narrates the bravery of a man who challenged the British and with his army of 13 year old kids, shook their reign.
Speaking about his inspiration for KHJJS, Mr. Gowarikar added, “ Swades was adapted to some extent from a book called Bapu Kutir by Rajni Bakshi. The story of Swades was different but the spirit was the same. For Jodhaa Akbar, I read both historians Abul Fazl and Badauni because their views were so contrasting. Of course, later I adapted What’s Your Raashee? from Madhu Rye’s novel Kimball Ravenswood. But what’s so special about Do And Die is that somewhere I felt much more responsible, much more careful. Because the account in the book itself is so detailed and so sacrosanct that when you are making a couple of changes for the film, you have to be very careful. There had to be the right balance between the facts and the spirit. The reason we are making this film is because we want the story of Surjya Sen and the revolutionaries to be seen by everyone.

Adding on Ashutosh said, “What attracted me most about the book — the teenagers.  What was happening in their minds? What were they going through when they had participated in this revolution? How did the parents allow their 13-year-old son to go for an armoury raid? I am thinking, they couldn’t have. So the kids did not even say at home. They were on their own. What were they thinking? How were they so driven? That means Surjya Sen had qualities which were inspiring and goaded them to partake in the revolution. Hence I named the film, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. “
The film will inspire and touch every Indian worldwide.

KHJJS is releasing worldwide on the 3rd Of Dec.
