Government of Canada Announces Funding for YMCA Newcomer Services in Sudbury
StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 12, 2010) - The Government of Canada is investing $220, 811 to help newcomers and their families in Sudbury, MP Larry Miller announced today, on behalf of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

This funding will enable the YMCA to provide services, including one-on-one support, career counselling and referrals to community services for newcomers in Sudbury.

"I want to offer my congratulations to the staff at the YMCA in Sudbury for officially launching their newcomer services today," said MP Miller. "With the efforts from organizations such as the YMCA, immigrants will be able to better integrate and participate in the Canadian economy and society."

The YMCA in Sudbury has been a leader in the delivery of employment and community programs for the past 23 years. Citizenship and Immigration Canada is funding the YMCA for newcomer services in Sudbury under CIC's Settlement Program.

Since 2006, the Government of Canada has more than tripled its annual spending for newcomers in Ontario. For 2010-11, the Government of Canada is allocating $428 million in Ontario for settlement services for newcomers, such as language training, job search workshops and placing immigration settlement workers in schools.
