Canada's largest charity polo tournament
StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-PACE Polo For Heart organizers, volunteers and sponsors gathered at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to celebrate their success and to officially make the cheque presentations to the two charities.
The celebration included PACE Polo For Heart riders facing off with NHL legends Darryl Sittler, Rick Vaive, Brad Marsh and Mark Napier in a first-ever game of ?Horse Hockey? during the Royal Horse Show. A thrilling spectator sport polo is often likened to hockey on horseback that uses horses and mallets instead of skates and sticks.
CEO David Sculthorpe accepted a $120,000 cheque on behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. The monies will be used for the Chase McEachern Tribute Fund which helps put automatic external defibrillators in community centres and schools across Ontario. Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation Director Gayani Weerasighe accepted a $120,000 cheque on behalf of Southlake?s Regional Cardiac Centre Centre.
Following the cheque formalities Mr. Sculthorpe presented PACE Polo For Heart Co-Chair Sheila Clarke and Vice-Chair Derek Watchorn with Heart and Stroke?s prestigious ?Heart & Soul Team Award for Volunteer Service.? The award is given to a volunteer team that ?has demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the Foundation and contributed to the success of the Foundation?s community-based programs and activities.?
PACE Polo For Heart is a three-day charity tournament and family festival that showcases the world?s best polo players along with the sport?s unique social side. World-class polo, traditional champagne divot stomps, tents and tables and best hat and picnic contests highlight the popular event held on the third weekend of June each year at the Gormley Polo Centre in Richmond Hill. The event has raised over $5 million for heart and stroke related charities since 1978.
The 32nd annual PACE Polo For Heart takes place June 17, 18 and 19, 2011. More information can be found at http://www.poloforheart.org/.
