What about this city attracts us? A vast majority of women who emigrate to Canada call Toronto home. While reasons to move to a different country are extremely varied, the women featured in this exhibit have made a choice: move to work.

As immigrant women, workplaces become arenas of cultural, professional and gender negotiation, inevitably impacting our personal and professional identities. Time spent travelling to, from and within our workplaces permeates our lives and informs our experience of the city.

This exhibit documents these realities: portraits of strength, ambition, determination, and resilience representative of the many women who contribute to Toronto’s everyday existence, continuing to work to move.
