The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) presents three new exhibitions that examine how the contemporary world is influenced and interpreted through innovative photography. The AGM is proud to be the only venue in Mississauga exhibiting, not one, but two featured exhibitions with the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.
In one featured exhibition, Montreal artist Chih-Chien Wang presents A Person Who Disappears, a new body of photo-based work exploring ideas of solitude, personal space, intimacy, and definition of the self, inspired by a news report of the mysterious disappearance of a woman and child.
In the AGM's second featured exhibition, The View from Here, five artists (Susan Dobson, Jason Gowans, Toni Hafkenscheid, Clive Holden, and Joshua Jensen-Nagle) investigate the landscape genre through the lens of the tourist gaze and nostalgia. These artists use an array of traditional and inventive techniques ranging from found imagery to video-game based algorithms to address photography's ability to both resemble the world and to make it strange.
Concurrent to the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival exhibitions, Susan Campbell'sTracing Ambiguity photo-based installation explores the design dynamics within urban and suburban spaces, challenging visitors to think differently about the spaces we occupy in our day to day lives and how we move through them.
Members of the media and the public are invited to the Opening Reception on April 30, 6 pm, at the AGM. There will be a free bus from The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen St W, Toronto) at6 pm, returning at 8 pm.
