Ontario Increasing GO Transit Service in Milton Additional Trains Coming To Milton Corridor

Through its Moving Ontario Forward plan, the government is investing in improvements across the GO Transit network to reduce travel times, manage congestion, connect people to jobs, and improve the economy. Funds will be used to build priority rapid transit projects that will connect to GO Transit and other systems across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

On April 16, Ontario moved ahead with its plan to unlock the value of certain public assets. This provides the province with approximately $4 billion, which will go into the Trillium Trust. The funds will be used to build new transit and other priority infrastructure projects through the Moving Ontario Forward plan. This increases Ontario’s total commitment from $29 billion to $31.5 billion. This is part of the province’s plan to invest more than $130 billion over 10 years in public infrastructure. The five year plan for the Milton Corridor will see an additional 6 new weekday peak (morning/evening) trips with potential for weekend service. Metrolinx continues to explore opportunities for Go Express buses and increased commuter parking. Currently in Halton, there are 90 weekly trips on the Milton line; over the next five years Metrolinx will increase the number of trips to more than 100. The Ontario Government is committed to providing improved service in Halton. The province is working with Metrolinx to add new trains, buses, and parking in the Milton area. Enhancement of the Milton GO line service is limited because the rail-line is owned by Canadian Pacific (CP). Metrolinx is in discussions with CP to negotiate opportunities to increase GO train service. Ontario urges the federal government to be a stable and consistent partner in our efforts to improve transit and other critical infrastructure projects. Federal government support is crucial to building more transit in the Halton region. The Ontario Government is committed to transforming Halton’s transportation system and will continue to prioritize better transit service to travellers. QUOTES “The government is expanding access to transit and building the necessary infrastructure for now and for the future. This is further proof of our government’s commitment to making the daily commute and quality of life better for Ontario families.” — Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation “The addition of 6 new trips on the Milton Line is a step in the right direction for Halton commuters. This underscores the commitment that our government has to Halton’s transportation. As a commuter, I’m pleased Metrolinx understands the issues facing local commuters and is actively working to add new trains, buses, and parking spaces.” — Indira Naidoo-Harris MPP, Halton QUICK FACTS  The government’s Moving Ontario Forward plan will make $31.5 billion available over the next 10 years for investments in priority infrastructure projects across the province and is expected to support over 20,000 jobs per year, on average, in construction and related industries.  Under Moving Ontario Forward, around $16 billion is being allocated to projects in the GTHA. Transit expansion and improvement projects already underway in the GTHA include Union Pearson Express, Eglinton Crosstown LRT, York VIVA Bus Rapid Transit and Union Station Revitalization.  Since 2003, the Ontario government has extended GO’s rail network by nearly 90 kilometres, opened 10 new GO stations, rebuilt two existing stations and added more than 31,000 parking spots across the system.  Studies show that congestion in the GTHA alone costs Ontario’s economy between $6 billion and $11
