HONOURABLE ASHA SETH RECEIVES NRI OF THE YEAR AWARD IN PHILANTHROPY

MUMBAI, APRIL 10TH, 2015 – TIMES NOW, India’s No. 1 news channel, and ICICI Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, celebrated the success and achievements of Indians across the world with the announcement of the winners of 2nd TIMES NOW ICICI Bank ‘NRI of the Year’ awards, powered by Global Indian International School (GIIS). The second edition of the awards was meant for 16 individuals under 7 different categories – Entrepreneur, Professional, Academics, Art & Culture, Philanthropy, Special Jury Award, and India’s Global Icon Award. The achievers are contestants from 4 regions – North America, UK, Middle-East & ASIA PACIFIC.



The TIMES NOW ICICI Bank NRI of the Year Awards recognize individuals who have dedicated their lives to the empowerment of minorities, women, children, and who have taken initiative in the field of health and education. The Honourable Dr. Asha Seth was selected as the winner of the "NRI of the Year Award in Philanthropy for North America." 

“It was an incredible honour to be selected as 2014 NRI of the Year in the category of ‘Philanthropy’ for the region of North America,” said winner Dr. Asha Seth. From an impressive pool of candidates, the Jury panel selected Dr. Asha Seth for her longstanding charitable work and her initiatives as the first woman of Indian origin to be appointed to the Senate of Canada.

Naveen Chandra, Head- International Business at Times Network, said: “The NRI of the Year awards is the most distinctive awards for Indians globally and we have received an overwhelming 30,000 registrations online and the multiple Jury rounds ensure the winners are high quality. Among the winners this year are Senators, winners of the Pravasiya Bharati Award, CEOs of global banks, and some very rich and accomplished Indians; with the youngest winner being 14 years while the oldest is 83 years. We hope to build this further into more markets and reaching out to more accomplished Indian Diaspora.” Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was felicitated with India’s Global Icon Award and the ceremony was aired in over 76 countries across the globe.

A beautiful event was held in Mumbai to celebrate the winners and honours the glory that their achievements have brought to India.

“I am humbled and grateful and I will continue to proudly represent Canada and India as an advocate for women, children, the physically disabled, and the blind and partially sighted,” said the Hon. Asha Seth.
