Bosco Caesar Choose Toronto for their Dance Academy

StarBuzzOnline
Bollywood’s leading choreographers, Bosco Martis and Caesar Gonsalves, are launching their dance academy Bosco Caesar Dance Academy in Toronto and are marking August 8 as the biggest dance extravaganza in the Greater Toronto Area.  The event – DANCE WITH BOSCO CAESAR - is taking place at the Living Arts Center in Mississauga and will include dignitaries, government leaders and community members.

Having been a part of the Indian film industry for over 14 years, Bosco Caesar have choreographed more than 300 songs and music videos.  Over the years, they have worked on memorable films like Partner, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., 3 Idiots, Paa, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, Gunday, Queen, Main Tera Hero etc.
Their story with Hindi cinema began when they got a call from director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, of 1942 A Love Story and Mission Kashmir fame.
“We got noticed by Pradeep Sarkar who was going to direct "Rind Posh Maal" from Mission Kashmir,” says Bosco.   “He suggested our names to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. We got a call from his production house and we were quite nervous and scared about what we will choreograph. We were watching a lot of Kashmiri folk videos to prepare for the song.”

“It was an amazing experience,” says Caesar.  “The first day only one shot was taken that too of a swan moving in the pond. The song took almost a week to shoot.”

After that, there was no looking back for the two who transited from playing football to choreography.   Over the years, they have worked with super stars and top notch actors in Bollywood like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh and the list goes on.

“Katrina Kaif is great to work with,” says Caesar.  “She is super hard working and she enhances the choreography. She pushes herself to do better and better and in the process pushes us to do better and in the end it all comes out brilliantly!”

“Ranveer Singh is very hard working; he makes all the steps we give him, looks very cool. He has such amazing energy and puts all his efforts into dancing. He does the choreography to the T even though he’s a non-dancer!”

Winners of the prestigious National Award, 3 Filmfare Awards, 2 IIFA Awards, Apsara Award and Screen Award for best choreography, Bosco Caesar’s new and power packed style is influenced by breakdancing and hip hop and they are inspired by Saroj Khan and Farah Khan.

I love Saroj Ji & Farah Khan,” says Bosco.   “Saroj Ji has actually created Bollywood, those moves when you see Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Urmila Matondkar and many others do, Saroj Ji has created these beautiful moves that make Bollywood look like what it is!  Farah Khan because her story telling is really cool. I like her way of integrating her choreography with the film song & story in a way where she doesn’t deviate from the story of the film.”

Bosco Caesar have also worked on iconic shows with the likes of International artists like Right Said Fred – Filmfare Awards, Shaggy – Femina Miss India, Pepsi Commercial feat, Christina Aguilera, Rockstar 2006 World Tour with Salman Khan, MTV Asia Awards, The Big V Concert, Khalid of Didi fame, Outlandish, Punjabi MC, Rishi Rich, RDB, Jazzy B, Hard Kaur, Choreography for Hollywood movie 'The Fall' (Directed by Tarsem Singh) & Commercial for 'Halifax Bank' (Directed by Tarsem Singh) and so on.

"In the 1980s, which was the best era of dancing with Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mithun's Disco Dancer and Govinda in Street Dancer, I was highly influenced by MC Hammer,” says Bosco.   “We used to wait for the TV show World This Week, in which they'd show a clip of what was happening on the international music scene. It was the only resource to get information. We'd record it and watch it on loop.

“MC Hammer's form of dancing was more powerful especially where leg movements are concerned. We knew our strength was our legs because of our background in football. We took advantage of that,” says Caesar.

Bosco Caesar’s leading instructors who have been working with super stars like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor will train students in the Toronto Academy scheduled for opening in August.   Indian classical dance forms and international dance forms like hip-hop, jazz, funk, street dancing will be some of the dance forms taught in Bosco Caesar Dance Academy.
“We have taught our dance moves to so many actors and sometimes, we have to teach them to relax and not be so rigid and inflexible while dancing. So Caesar and I thought of coming up with a dance company where people not only learn our dance moves but also learn how to have fun while dancing. We want people to love dancing and not be scared of it,” says Bosco.
“Our dance program helps students overcome their shyness and develop self-confidence, and also to bring awareness about health, fitness, musical and artistic sensibility. Knowledge about different dance forms, their origin and other trivia will be shared with students to broaden their horizon. Largely our dance classes are a mixture of fun and learning.”
