ALISON CEO & Founder Mike Feerick was recently a Guest Speaker at the Cambridge Assessment Seminar - “Schools in the Cloud - Learning without Teachers, It Couldn't Happen, Could it?” in London.  As part of the debate on the future of education, Mike gave a presentation on ALISON, an online education provider often regarded as the first MOOC. With over 3 million users, ALISON is making learning and certification freely accessible to people around the world through the use of new technologies and innovative business models.
Also speaking at the event were Lord David Putnam, award winning film director and public policy advocate, and Sugata Mitra, Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK. Sugata was the instigator of the 1999 ‘Hole in the Wall’ (HIW) experiment during which a computer was embedded into a wall in an Indian slum at Kalkaji, Delhi for children to freely use it. The experiment aimed to prove that children could learn IT skills very easily without any formal training. Sugata termed this as ‘Minimally Invasive Education’ (MIE). The experiment has since been repeated at many places.
