BRAMPTON, Ontario – The Supreme Court of Canada has recently issued a decision relating to prostitution. A group of current and former prostitutes brought the case forward to the Supreme Court, which handed down its verdict in late December in their favour.

In a year’s time, this decision would make legal the operation of brothels, living on the avails of prostitution, and communicating in public for the purposes of buying and selling sex.
“I am deeply concerned by this ruling. This poses a threat to our community, our children, and our families. Prostitution is an affront to moral public good and our society” said Brampton- Springdale Member of Parliament, Parm Gill.
“I will continue to work with Justice Minister MacKay and our Government to ensure that  legislation is introduced in time, that will protect our communities before the court decision comes into effect. The possible consequences of this Supreme Court ruling are very troubling  and I will continue to stand up for family values and our community’s wellbeing.”
The Government plans to take legislative action to protect our community from this threat
“We are reviewing the decision and are exploring all possible options to ensure the criminal  law continues to address the significant harms that flow from prostitution to communities, those engaged in prostitution, and vulnerable persons.” said Justice Minister Mackay.
“We are committed to the safety of all Canadians and the well-being of our communities.”
The Government will ensure that new laws are put in place to address these needs and concerns. “This is of great concern to my constituents, and our Government will do everything it can to protect Canadian families and Canadian values through this new legislation in keeping our streets and communities safe.” concluded Mr. Gill.
