Working Toward Jobs, Growth and Results during India Trade Mission: Fennell

Strengthening relations with private-sector and government leaders in India is crucial to attract job-creating investments here at home, Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell said today during a 15-day trade mission to India.

Fennell highlighted three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) she signed on behalf of Brampton with the All India Association of Industries, the World Trade Centre of Mumbai and the Small and Medium Business Development Chamber of India (SME Chamber of India), respectively. Each organization promotes economic growth.

Speaking specifically about Brampton’s MoU with the SME Chamber, Fennell said “an important factor that makes this MoU significant for Brampton is that more than 80 per cent of businesses in Brampton are small and medium sized.”

The SME Chamber has developed key strategies to promote and support small and medium sized enterprises to implement innovative ideas to stay ahead of the competition. “This is a perfect fit with Brampton’s strategy of fostering an entrepreneurial and competitive economy. SMEs play a vital role as part of this strategy,” Fennell added.

As a result of this MoU, the SME Chamber will partner with the Brampton Economic Development Office (EDO) to help promote Brampton’s interests among investors from India.  EDO will provide information on economic opportunities available in Brampton, while the SME Chamber will assist Indian and Canadian companies in identifying opportunities for joint business ventures, research and development partnerships, knowledge exchange and university-industry networking, among others.

“We look forward to working with our Indian counterparts on business missions, video-conference seminars, workshops and other information-sharing opportunities that will see this trade mission lead to future job creation, economic growth and real results for Bramptonians,” Fennell concluded.
