(Ottawa) Deepak Obhrai, M.P. and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be attending the African Union Summit hosted by Ethiopia from January 23 – 27, 2013, to highlight Canada’s active and engaged foreign policy in Africa.
Mr. Obhrai will discuss with representatives Canada’s contributions to the region and current issues affecting the continent such as the enfolding situation in Mali. He will reiterate Canada’s support for international diplomatic efforts to restore democracy and stability to Mali, led by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and that Canada stands ready to consider additional humanitarian or diplomatic support.
The Parliamentary Secretary has made it a priority to see firsthand Canadian efforts to promote human rights by visiting a training program funded by the Canadian government that is being used to support human rights and support education on issues around violence against women.StarBuzz, Toronto
