Aletter from Tim Hudak, Ontario PC Leader

Friends,

I wanted you to be the first to know that this morning Toby Barrett and I are launching the latest Ontario PC white paper – Paths to Prosperity: Welfare to Work.

We face a jobs crisis today – with more than half a million people unemployed and a huge pool of talent going to waste on welfare and other supports. But even if the economy were growing and putting people to work, the complex bureaucracies and rules that tangle up our welfare system are costly and unsustainable.

Despite spending $10 billion a year on support programs – a 67 per cent increase under the Liberals – the number of people living in poverty has increased by 300,000 over the last decade and we still have 400,000 men and women trapped on welfare.

I'm proud to have been a part of government that created over a million new jobs and lifted hundreds of thousands of people off of welfare and out of poverty.

This Paths to Prosperity white paper – the eighth in a series – proposes sensible ideas to streamline and improve program delivery and places a particular focus on leveraging the enormous untapped potential of people with disabilities.

Sincerely,

Tim Hudak,
Ontario PC LeaderStarBuzz, Toronto
