Canada Day Marks Celebration of Canada’s Newest City

MARKHAMON ~ June 27, 2012 ~ Markham will celebrate its official status as a city on July 1 in the presence of the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, as part of Markham’s annual Canada Day celebrations.

Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Council Members will host a number of events throughout the day which will culminate with the official ceremony and main stage entertainment at Milne Park beginning at 6:00 p.m.. Markham’s annual Canada Day celebration at Milne Park attracts over 25,000 participants.


What:               Canada Day / Markham’s City Status Celebration
·         Citizenship Ceremony, Markham Civic Centre Council Chambers – 10:00 a.m.
·         Seniors Luncheon, Sheraton Parkway Hotel (Hwy. 7)  – 12:00 noon
·         Jeanne Bowman Children’s Tent – 3:00 p.m. 
·         Entertainment & food vendors open at Milne Park – 3:00 p.m.
·         People’s Parade, McCowan / Hwy. 7 – 4:00 p.m.
·         Official Ceremonies, Milne Park – 6:00 p.m.
