www.insurancerate.com StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto- On Monday June 18th at 9:30 a.m, media are invited to attend a special announcement by the Hon. Laurel Broten, Minister Responsible for Women’s Issues, at MicroSkills Centre of Excellence for Women and Newcomers. Minister Broten will talk about Ontario’s initiatives to help low income women learn new skills and get jobs in Ontario’s growth sectors and professions typically dominated by men. Following the announcement, the Minister will be available to take questions from the media.
Also present at the event will be Faryal Sami and Subothini Ananthaganeshan, two immigrant women who recently benefited from training programs funded by the province. Both Subothini and Faryal were underemployed, with a desire to pursue work in sectors currently seeing a lot of growth in Ontario.

As a newcomer from Pakistan, Faryal Sami felt a profound sense of relief when she found MicroSkills – a centre that brought together the resources and training opportunities she needed to pursue a career in IT in Ontario. MicroSkills, she says, allowed her to shine.
Subothini worked as a software developer in Sri Lanka before she came to Canada through the Federal Skilled Worker program. Despite her qualifications, her lack of Canadian experience meant she had to take low-paying jobs outside of her field, just to pay the bills. Since MicroSkills offers both technical training and co-op placement opportunities, Subothini says, she’s confident she will have all the tools she needs to achieve her professional goals.
Faryal and Subothini will be pleased to share their stories and answer any questions from the media.
Following the event an electronic media kit will be available for your use. It includes clips, b-roll, photos and background information.
