ART'S SCENE FOR JUNE 20-JUNE 27- Toronto & Mississaga

Produced by the Mississauga Arts Council, the first annual Meet the Media Makers of Mississauga Event will be coming to the Living Arts Centre this July 12, 2012 and the call for submissions has officially been opened to all filmmakers. There will be a fantastic evening full of entertainment, provided by Mississauga's own creative media makers. The event will feature a showcase of independent film and video and a chance for movie discussion with Mississauga's film industry professionals.
The Meet the Media Makers of Mississauga Event is doubling as a benefit for the Canadian Deafblind Association of Ontario. Come out and experience Mississauga's finest media works, meet with the artists behind the material and donate to the less fortunate who are unable to truly enjoy the art of the moving image. The deadline for submissions is June 20, 2012.The Living Arts Centre is located at 4141 Living Arts Drive. The Mississauga Arts Council’s next Media Arts Mash up networking event will take place on June 28, 2012, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring a special travelogue series and discussion on applying for grants and where to find the best resources for them. Have you always wanted to connect with other individuals in the community that share your passion for filmmaking? Maybe the medium always sparked your interest or you’ve always enjoyed seeing what local filmmakers are producing. If you answered yes to any of the above, than this is definitely an event you need to mark in your calendar! Hosted by MAC’s Communications Coordinator, Luiza Sadowski, the event will give you some insight into the world of filmmaking in Mississauga and will help you get started or give you some advice on who to connect with, where to go for the industry answers or receive a critique on your work. Come out to see what all the hype is about! The mash ups take place at the Art Gallery of Mississauga, located at 300 City Centre Drive. The Woman in Us Exhibit is a fresh, new art exhibition featuring paintings by Aveen Ismail for National Youth Arts Week. The exhibition is presented by the Mississauga Arts Council in partnership with the Mississauga YMCA. Explore the emotional and thought-provoking works by emerging visual artist Aveen Ismail on display for National Youth Arts Week. Proudly showcased in her new exhibit, The Woman in Us, Aveen’s paintings are an expression of her passion for life and art. Deeply inspired by the works of Klimt and Picasso, Aveen’s art explores the multi-faceted nature of women and their diverse emotional landscape.  Come and explore Aveen’s art, an evocative mixture of representational serenity art, expressionism, fauvism, still life, poetry and fashion. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy the works of one of Mississauga’s top emerging visual artists in a free exhibit at the Mississauga YMCA. The exhibition runs until July 15. Sampradaya Dance Centre Official Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony! Sampradaya Dance Creations excitedly anticipates the official Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony set to take place on June 20, 2012 to reveal the newly expanded and renovated dance centre with special guests, funders and an extended network of supporters. The dance centre is a well-appointed, multipurpose space that is equipped with state of the art professional lighting and sound and retractable seating for 100 to accommodate a variety of events. This momentous occasion for Sampradaya has become a reality through generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and The Department of Canadian Heritage.  It is the Company’s vision that the dance centre truly evolves into community-hub for South Asian arts and culture locally and nationally. Girls Rock Camp 2012. Registration is now open for Girls Rock Camp Mississauga 2012! This amazing non-profit camp for girls aged 8-16 will be held from August 13 to 17 at Rehearsal Factory. Liberty Junction Theatre’s Summer Theatre Camp. Registration is now open for children ages 6 to 11 for the Summer Theatre Camp with the Liberty Junction Theatre Company. Improve confidence, develop acting skills and make new friends. It encompasses musical theatre, improve games and mask scenes. Art Contest at the Grange: Capturing Mississauga's Heritage. 175th Anniversary of the Rebellion of 1837. Artists and photographers are invited to walk in the footsteps of history and to retrace and capture an image from the route of William Lyon Mackenzie’s escape following the failed Rebellion of 1837, 175 years ago in 2012! Mackenzie’s flight from authorities took him through historic Mississauga in late December of 1837, following the rebel uprising at Montgomery’s tavern. Mackenzie’s story, and the Rebellion of 1837, has become a famed part of Canada’s history.We are asking submitting artists to capture a scene along the route that was taken by Mackenzie through Mississauga – a modern scene or streetscape, nature, a historic house or setting, anything that might strike your fancy and in any format that you wish. Prizes will be awarded to the winning entries, and all entries will be part of the ALFEW show, Celebrating Mississauga’s Heritage 2: The 175th Anniversary of the Rebellion of 1837, which runs from June to August 24, 2012.
