Tia's Talk with Very Talented Singer and Musician Kasim - watch out for his album this year.

www.insurancerate.com StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto--
-Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Paris, France and traveled a lot between Europe and North America as a kid. So I guess I grew up on both sides of the ocean.

-How do you think the environment you were in and your surroundings shaped you on all what you do now?
It shaped me a lot, travelling was the best education I ever got. You meet and see some of the most interesting people when you travel. Culture shock is a blessing in disguise, it makes you worldly to say the least.

-What led you to realize that you wanted to be a singer? What is your genre/s?
I discovered the music of Elton John, Queen and George Michael while I was in my mid teens. Those songs changed my life, it was like seeing a reflection that was there all along but I never noticed it. Those songs were a reflection of me. My genre is pop but it goes beyond that, I suppose I'm on the verge of creating a new genre...

-How do you think you are impacting the South Asian community through your music?
Well as an artist you never truly know what the public might think of you…I suppose all I can do is hope to be a positive influence and role model for people of my background. Perhaps lending courage to break the moulds and stereo types. And yes South Asians can do more then drive taxi's or do your finances…

-What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on my upcoming album which will be called 'Kasim'. I am in the studio at the moment finishing up tracks for the project. It's gonna be a great album, very accessible yet very artistic. I am hoping to take people on a musical journey to find themselves and have a great time doing it.

-What do you have in mind for the near future?
The future is big, I want my music to have reached every part of the world. Europe and North America is not enough for me. I think I have something relatively unique to offer as an artist and that's just the case without me trying very hard. It's just the person I've always been.

-Career wise what is the one thing that has been very special to you?
I'll never forget the first time I sang for my mom. I had just begun singing secretly and did a great job keeping it to myself..So one day I mustered up the courage and said "hey mama I wanna sing you a song..", I'll never forget her reaction. It was then that I realized I could move people and it occurred to me that maybe someday this could be more then just something I like.

-Do you have any particular project you have wanted to work on or be a part of?
I have always been passionate about women's right, so hopefully someday in the future I'd love to be part of some cause which celebrates the role of women in society. Especially women in India and Pakistan as well as other regions of South Asia…they need our help.

-Any thing else that you want to share with our readers?

Also be on the look out my upcoming album which is set to release this year.
