www.insurancerate.com StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-The Pandit Jasraj Institute of Music in Toronto will be presenting – for the first time in Canada – a unique concert featuring “Three Generations of the Mewati Gharana”. Padma Vibhushan Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj will be performing in Toronto on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 5:00 pm at the Sringeri Vidya Bharati Foundation in Etobicoke.
The concert will feature Dr. Amit Arya, Artistic Director of the Pandit Jasraj Institute of Music in Toronto as the introductory artist, followed by “Acharya Shiromani” Pandita Tripti Mukherjee and then the living legend, Sangeet Martand Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj.
The artists will be accompanied by Shri Aditya Narayan Banerjee and Shri Hindole Majumdar on the tabla and Shri Parag Marathe and Dr. Neelesh Nadkarni on harmonium.
In January 2011, Amit Arya launched the Pandit Jasraj Institute of Music Toronto (www.panditjasrajinstitute.ca) , a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to propagate Indian Classical Vocal Music. Through this institute, Amit teaches students of all ages and levels in the style of the Mewati Gharana.
“My personal mission is to establish Indian Classical Music as a mainstream phenomenon as the director of the Institute,” says Amit Arya, Artistic Director of the Pandit Jasraj Institute of Music in Toronto.
All proceeds from the concert will go to the not-for-profit institute to support Indian Classical Vocal instruction in Toronto and surrounding areas. Tickets can be purchased online at www.panditjasrajinstitute.ca or online viawww.sulekha.com.
